I don't get New Year's Day being such a big holiday

Nothing special for me either. Watching 3 dgs's (2, 4 & 6) while my DD went to my sister's to spend the evening with her cousin and DIL went to her parents. Both won't be home until morning. Son is at work in the rigs and won't be home for a couple of weeks. Never really was interested in partying on New Year's Eve. Have to go to my parents tomorrow for Dad's BDay.

By the time New Year's comes around, I'm exhausted from the past month of holidays - eating too much junk food, sleep schedule off, traveling more than usual, etc. I usually don't have energy left for New Years. A quiet night at home with DH. I just made a big pot of "left-overs soup." We'll eat that tomorrow.

Today is my boss's birthday. They were friends for years before I started working for them. Anyway, they have a huge home and always have a party on New Years Eve, in honor of John's birthday. There is no alcohol except for a sip of champagne at midnight. It is full of all my friends from church and we eat and talk an have all kinds of games going, ie Apples to apples, domino's, scrabble, rummykub, all kinds of fun stuff. The house is large enough that when we all had teenagers they could fit about 60 of them upstairs in their bonus room.
Unfortunately our head pastor asked my DH to plan a movie and party at the church for tonight. He will be there and I will be with all of our friends. I will probably go over there so I can kiss him at midnight. The church is basically across the street and my friends are only about 2 miles down the road, all in town streets. (the main one runs right past the police station)

I still love New Years To me it is a family event usually we have a fondue or some kind of snack thing in the evening and on Jan 1 we have a big family meal and make a lot of phone calls to friends and family not here to wish them a safe and Happy New Year! It's sort of a chance to be optimistic and make a new start!
