Default I have a button question for vests

A friend wants me to make a reversible vest with buttons. Can I just sew 2 buttons back to back, maybe one with a shank and the other without, make buttonholes on each side and then button through the 2 holes? Any better solutions are welcome. I'm getting "fuzzy" thinking about this.

    Thanks for your help.

i have seen it done that way. or just sew a button to the inside and outside of the vest and just have the one set of buttonholes. i don't think that the buttons being on the wrong side [left or right] when buttoning will be too much of an issue.
