OMG we always had the aluminum trays, but we cranked the lever to loosen the ice, then picked the cubes out as needed. I don't think we ever had a bin to empty them in! Haha.

But we never put ice in anything other than highballs, or maybe an ice tea for company. I used to watch my mom make a pitcher of Tom Collins, with fresh slices of fruit, but all I got was the lemon-lime soda! And we didn't put ice in soda, or water. It came from the fridge, that was cold enough.

Maybe ice cube trays if they still exist would be good for holding machine feet.

My DH grew up with an ice machine in the freezer - I did not, my mom always said there were 5 ice makers in the house and didn't need any more. (She had 3 dishwashers, too.) I wouldn't hook up the ice maker in our freezer because we have hard wood floors. Five years ago we had some work done in the kitchen and my DH had the contractor hook up the ice maker. (And I must admit, it is very nice to have.)

I remember ice cube trays which is what we called them. I don't like ice/water on the door because I am the biggest offender of splashing water and dropping ice. The add on ice maker for our frig wasn't that expensive.

I do know what ice cube trays are. I grew up in a home that did not have a refrig until I was in 3rd grade. But when you talked about ice cube bins I did not think of the container you dumped the ice into. I use mine for a cheese container in the refrig. Never thought to move it to the sewing room. Thanks for all the ideas.

I prefer to purchase bags of ice. I like that it is clear and has no residual freezer tastes.

The thing referred to was "bins" not "trays". I was confused too, until some others explained what the bins are. I don't have one, and don't want one. My ice cube trays are filled by me, and emptied by me. (Oh, and my hubby.)

I would not like the bin that was shown for storing things, as the top is so large it would just take up a whole lot of room on a shelf.

isn't it a shame new fridges don't come with a tray?
I keep fancy ice cube trays. I have skulls for Halloween, stars, footballs, hearts and shamrocks.
they make great chocolate molds too.
