If You've Ever Lost A Pet
#1
this service might come in handy. I just found out about it today but if your dog or cat gets lost or escapes from your yard or home this may help find it. The link is http://www.findtoto.com/ It's a nationwide service that phones all the homes, not cell phones, in a particular area to alert them to a lost pet. The Greyhound Pets of America in Longwood, FL just used them to find a greyhound that escaped from the foster mom's home. The grey was spotted in less than an hour after the alert went out and returned to GPA.

Be sure to have a micro chip installed just under the skin in an ear or between shoulder blades which, if a finder has the sense to have the dog checked by a vet or at a shelter, you will be notified. I had one installed at a special event in a local park and he got a tag for his collar bringing attention to the chip with a tel. number to call. Great service. Costs very little. I think all shelters have the technology to check for the chip.

I believe that all animals in the city limits are required to be micro chipped. Of course, you can avoid doing this by not registering your pets. Then you don't have to have them spayed or neutered either. Responsible pet owners do all of the above!!

Years ago I read a book by a lady in Fresno, CA, who ran a pet finding company. In the book she said that while dogs can cover a heck of a long distance, most cats will not go past the second or third house from home. BUT if scared or injured, in pain, they won't answer to even their owners' voices, their natural instinct is to hide from danger.
She said....Look in places that you'd never think they could get into, and put out a Hava=Heart cage with their favorite treat in it. Check it often at a distance.

I had my, now deceased, lovely sheltie microchipped and she got out at age 9 and was gone a week but the person who picked her up took her to vet and mentioned she found her and they scanned and brought my BABY back!!! Actually the lady thought she was much younger and was keeping her but when she mentioned that the vet scanned her and wouldn't let her take her back.I sent her $ none the less because she kept her from getting hit by a car.I never ever ever thought in a million years I'd be using that chip. But I now strongly believe in them!!!
