I, too, am sorry for your loss. It's never easy to loose a loved one, but it seems so much harder at this time of year. May happy memories of him bring you peace and strength.

Sorry for your loss. I would go ahead & make the quilt for your brother & donate it to the nursing home he was in if he doesn't have immediate family. It could be a healing process for you.
