OK - this is it - so many of you are versed in just about every aspect of life, so maybe you could help with this delema.
We have carpet in our bathroom-----yeah, it is very 70's but we do anyway. The last time I steam cleaned it left stripes. I washed out the steam cleaner, and re did it after 6 months-------more stripes. Have any of you experienced that before?? How in the world do I get rid of the stripes???
Thank you in advance!

Does it look clean initially, then as it dries the stripes show up? If so, it can be coming up from the pad underneath. As the pad gets damp from the carpet being cleaned, the pad releases it's own soil which wicks into the carpet as it dries.

We moved in here with carpet in the bathroom and I literally tore it out myself--I said I will walk on bare boards then this pink stained carpet any longer! I doubt I could find the strength to pull it out now. There was so much pink in the bathroom I wanted to throw up every time I went in there--and I like pink. LOL

Here's a thought. Maybe the brushes on the roller are damaged and won't allow the machine to vacuum up cleanly.

Blessings,
Ruth

mrspete - the brushes look fine - the "stripes" are less than pencil thin, and it almost looks like there was bleach in the water because it is lighter than the rest....

How strange. Don't feel bad, we have old mint colored carpet in the bathroom that was here when we moved in.
I hope to yank it out this winter vacation and redo the bathroom. The wallpaper is avacado green, yellow, bits of orange, white, with Oriental motif. VERY 70's. Hate it. Oh, and they had pink accents in here too. Talk about morning sickness!

How can you be off topic in general chat?

Ended up w/light spots in the carpet once, cleaner was too harsh for the carpet and ended up bleaching that area. Good thing it was going out, 10 yrs later :)
If the unit that was used was rented, never know what was put in prior to you useing, these machines are not normally cleaned out from use to use, we can only hope the previous user didn't fill w/bleach, or some got caught in an area that added it as you used.
Congrats on the new look ;) or Yee Haw Carpet shopping !!
