Thanks for sharing. Her books were a big part of my life growing up, the writing is so down to earth. The Wilder Museum in Burr Oak is not too far from me. I will check this book out for sure.

thanks for posting this. i have all of her books and have read them multiple times. when i moved to MN, the LIW museum was the first trip that i made. i had heard that her daughter was publishing a book from notes that laura left when she died. i haven't read that one. but this one sounds fascinating... i'd read it for sure.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I grew up in SD on a farm that was homesteaded by my great-grant parents and where my Mom grew up until she married my father. After several years of moving around, my parents came back to SD where they bought the farm before it could go for back taxes. It was not an easy life, and they initially lived in a sod house before my great grandmother built the house I grew up in. I look forward to reading more about this, as it documents part of SD history.

I've thought about a trip specifically to see the museum. Would you recommend it? I read all the books multiple times, too, and made my boys sit through two of them. It didn't "take" with them. I've been thinking about reading them again.

PS I just read the link and it doesn't tell us how we will be able to get a copy. Do you think it will be directly from the historical site?

It's being released in September and you can order it on Amazon. I am sure Barnes and Noble will carry it too.

I grew up not far from Walnut Grove, MN. They also have a great museum and put on a wonderful pageant each summer. This year several of the actors from the Little House TV series met there for a reunion the last weekend in July. Unfortunately, we had other obligations that weekend, so could not attend. We took our girls there last summer (ages 9 and 11) and they loved it. It was also fun to splash in Plum Creek and see the original dugout site.

Cindy, maybe if you have them watch the show they'll get into the book more. My grandson, now 8 fell in love with the show a few yrs ago. I was watching it and he noticed they were walking into town and wanted to know why. I explained how they didn't have cars back then. With that first show, he found out they didn't have cars, electric, bikes running water, and even lots didnt have horses. He was fascinated with the fact that there was a time when there was no electric or even batteries. That's when I figured out why he was so taken with my tredle machine, it doesn't use anything but human power. Not to long after that they had a all night marathon of the Little House on the Prarie, and my little grandson stayed up all night long (by himself most of the time) and watched it. Not too long after that he watched the Waltons and that too amazed him how the kids walked to school and didn't have video games etc. I think he'd sit thru the book now if I read it too him because after watching the show he understands how they lived

I have every book out there and will buy this new one also. I have read the books several times. I read them as an adult. About 23-24 years ago my Daughter and I went to her home in Mansfield, MO. It was great. Thanks for posting this.
I didn't care for the TV show.
