Here is another link:
http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/bea...dromedea.shtml

Says that they are listed as a threatened in Michigan, as well as endangered in New York, Vermont and Wisconsin.

http://botany.org/Parasitic_Plants/P...andromedea.php

Apparently they are edible and have medicinal value. (DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.....RESEARCH, RESEARCH AND MORE RESEARCH).

A list of poisonous plants to pets:

Ew, ew, ew. I share your judgment of them as ugly. Like orange asparagus on steroids

I like their form. I like plants / fungi / etc. that look like Dr. Seuss drawings.
I think they're beautiful too: easy for me to say, since I don't have them popping up everywhere

We have pine trees planted in an L shape as wind breaks around the property here in Iowa.....I've never seen anything like these and would have thought they were floral also. Thanks for letting us know!

Wow! Those look like something out of a Science -fiction movie. Never seen anything quite like that. Good to know that they are not harmful to your pine trees, anyhow.
