My mother would say "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride" whenever we were wishing for something we weren't going to get.

My husband actually went to the store and asked to buy elbow grease. When he told me that I nearly died laughing.

I have heard all of these except the "lick and a promise" - really does bring back the old days. My father-in-law has some real funny sayings - I have to write them down because they are hilarious and I haven't heard them from others. Thanks for the memories Ditter.

My grandmother would say She'd complain if her talking dog couldn't sing and she's so stubborn she'd float upstream. Mostly about women in her church lady's group. All Southern Belles!
