I get a week off from school in Feb. & we are trying to figure out where to go. So far we've thought of Memphis then Savannah, Georgia or Charleston, South Carolina. I know what there all is to see in Memphis but I was wondering about Savannah & Charleston. I'm sure there are board members here from these two cities so could you tell me what there is to see & what the weather would be like in Feb? I know we would find many great houses & plantations but what would there be for our husbands to interest them into going? I know I'll get some great reports from all of you. Will wait for the infor. Thanks!!!!

Charleston,S.C. and Savannah,Ga. are both loaded with history. Charleston is my favorite place to visit, there is so much to do and see. True history not reproductions.
Many free things to do. Great food and a wide range of resturants. Check both cities chamber of commerce or visitor centers. Weather in the south in Feb can be either cold or very warm.
Have a great trip.

Our daughter lived in Charleston for about 9 years, so we were there several times. I love just being in the downtown area. You are surrounded by history - you can feel it in the air. My DH was never bored. You can go to Fort Sumpter, browse the antique shops on King St. as well as all the restored home tours. Walking on places where George Washington walked was amazing to me. The city market is fascinating and just walking the cobbled streets that are over 200 years old and seeing the architecture. Magnolia Plantation has the most beautiful gardens. The restaurants have the most amazing food.
Charleston is just so entirely different from anything we have out here on the Plains.

Thanks everyone for the infor. I knew I could count on you. I'm going to send the infor to our cousins & see what they think. Both places sound great & very interesting but my hubby said it doesn't interest him & would still rather go to Memphis. I'll let you know what we decide.

Do a search online for Charleston. Lots of stuff to do. You can get a bus ticket and ride all over town for the day. Sumpter and Yorktown--Medal of Honor Museum, the Market, Aquarium. Love seafood? this is the place! A.W.Shucks!! Best seafood I've ever had. I didn't even order from the entree menu, just appetizers!! My husband still talks about the place! He was impressed with the care they took for his meal. He is allergic to seafood and the manager made sure to tell everyone who was around serving us, AND prepared his pasta primavara himself!!They even have a "Dog Porch" where you can sit outside and dine with your pet with you!! Great for people who travel with their pets.

What is your husband interested in? There's a submarine base there- Is your husband ex-Navy or navy reserve? Charleston is a port with a Navy base. There has been a TV show about a hotel in the old part of town, just a block from the harbor that is haunted and still rents rooms. Does he like ghosts?
It's hard to come up with something to suggest with no guide lines as to his interests.
