Is there a way to mark posts as read so I don't have to open each one? I am not interested in some of the topics, and when I have been away for a day or so, there is a long list to look through. I think the Bow-tucks are beautiful and deserve their place here, but am not interested in making any, so don't want to look at all of them to get to the topics I like. And now it seems that we have to get through people selling non-quilting items, like Barbies and collectibles...sorry, not wanting to take the time away from the quilt topics that I do like to see. I go to Ebay for those types of things.
And no, I cannot just ignore them - can't stand having unread topics. I need to check them off the list!

Hmmm....is there "another" section for non-quilt items? Like if bow-tucks are tucked away in there, then you'd only have "main" to look through?

I think the doll situation is something Admin would have to Admin. I always thought the for sale section is for sewing and quilting items, but I could be mistaken.

Ultimately though...you really DON'T have to read all the topics. I'm sorry that having the unreads causes you personal grief!

You can mark them ALL as read, but then it deletes ALL of your unread topics.

Click on unread topics at the top of the page, then towards the top of that page is a place to click to delete them all :D:D:D

That's what the subject lines are for. I see bow tucks - yes ladies they are nice but would rather see your quilts I don't open them. If you feel YOU must open the new topics without reading the subject lines I don't know what to tell you. It's okay to say no and not everything has to be 'checked read'

I always try to put what my post is about in the subject line so you can skip it if you're not interested, but lots of people want you to open theirs anyway so they make the topic a mystery. That also makes it hard to find if someone searches for a certain topic and it's not in the subject line.

it's very much like this ....

we probably agree with you. however, members to a lot of things the rules and policies say "don't do". sometimes there is a clear and undeniable need to enforce the letter of the law. sometimes we try to develop a feel for the consensus among the general membership. if something isn't potentially harmful to the board or our members, and if nobody complains we try to be flexible.

it's easy to say "if it doesn't interest you then don't look" but - as has already been pointed out - you don't always know it's of no interest until you have looked. i suppose there are some who deliberately compose vague titles to guarantee more views but i think it's probably for other reasons. posters pick titles that pop into their heads and don't evaluate them from the reader's perspective. it isn't malicious. i'd rather put up with it than to create yet another rule that would not only suck the fun out of posting (who wants to stress over composing a title?) but would certainly be ignored.

I thought once you read them, they weren't in the "Unread Topics" link anymore?
