Default Maui is Burning!!

Fire broke out yesterday afternoon, during hurricane force winds, and totally engulfed the Maui town of Lahaina. It's destroyed. Late that night more fire broke out in other areas of the island: Kihei, Upcountry, Wailuku and Kahului. The fires are still burning and have broken out on other islands as well: Big Island and Oahu (Honolulu). They are still burning and thousands of people are evacuated to shelters. It's a complete disaster. God help them all!

I read people had to be rescued from the ocean because they were trying to get away from the fires!

This is a really bad disaster. I heard that they are trying to convince the visitors at the nearby hotels to end their vacation early so the hotel rooms can be used to house the locals. I wonder if the airlines are cooperating with that request. What a scary situation for everyone over there. The rains will cause lots of mud slides into the future, too. I hope relief agencies are able to help once the fires go away. We are going to have to help one another through these disasters. Our family and neighbors can help a lot to help keep our sanity and hope up when disaster strikes.

Yes, the airlines are doing all they can to move people off the island of Maui. There is disaster relief coming from the Feds. And Mercy Chefs (a great organization) has been deployed to Maui. They cook food on a large scale, to feed the people who are now homeless. Thousands of residents. If anyone wants to really help, they can support MercyChefs.com and provide food for the victims. They don't need a quilt (yet), they need meals.

I read this morning that up to 55 people have died in these fires. So sad.
