Men's shirt apron
#23
Really a cute one!! I am wondering if anyone has made them from Western shirts(snap front)?? Would like to make some BBQ aprons for men from DH's discarded, gently worn or unworn shirts. Most are denim or twill-type fabric. Any ideas??

I couldn't find the original link so I just winged it.
I used a men's XXL shirt with the long tails because I wanted my apron to be as large as possible. The neck measures 18 inches done up. To put it on, you unbutton a couple of the top buttons to get it over your head. I cut my side 1/2 inch outside the side seams so I had enough to sew the seam binding to. I marked the arm/sides by putting my ruler as close to the arm stitching as I could get and the other end of my ruler where the front of the shirt ends up at the collar. I cut 1/2 inch outside that line to give myself something to sew the seam binding to. I left 1/2 inch below the collar area also to sew the seam binding to.
In the link that someone else posted, they just cut right under the bottom of the collar and turned under the raw edges at the arms/sides instead of adding seam binding. I cut the ties from the shirt back at 6 inches wide and folded then in half. If I do another one I would make the ties a little narrower maybe 4 1/2 inches for a finished size of 2 inches wide.

Nanacc-I think western shirt would work as long as you had enough room to cut the sides without hitting the pockets? I know some western shirts have double pockets on the chest that could make the angle arm cut difficult? Thicker shirts could probably be done with or without the seam binding edges. I used the seam binding because a regular cotton shirt was kind of flimsy and I thought cutting on the bias, it would ripple?
