I know the metal roofs last longer. But we went with 30 year shingles. The price for shingles installed was $5700 and metal was $15000. We figured we could buy another shingled roof in 25 years for that price.

Check with your insurance agent. When DH fell off our own roof, homeowners' insurance does not cover the homeowner, but would cover a worker.
