for those of you that the metric system is your primary system to measure things - do you use the foot-pound-cup system used in the USA as a "second language"?

I have never gotten used to the metric system. Inches, feet and yards are what I use in sewing and tsp. Tbsp. and cups in baking. I could say a lot more about the metric system but that might get me banned.

I never did learn metrics or Roman numerals. I was switching schools and totally missed out. One less thing to cram into my brain.

When I was in school we were constantly told that we would have to switch to the metric system someday. Well that day never came. I did get used to kilometers when driving in Canada, but the people I knew there primarily used pounds, cups, acres, etc. in their daily lives rather than metrics. And the U.K. uses miles rather than kilometers. (And pints!)

I learned the metric system as a young teen when Canada switched over (1970). So I feel I am fluent in both 'languages'. Celsius temperatures, kilometers, ml, etc all are fine with me. I don't convert. I just don't think telling people I had a 4.621 kilogram baby packs the same wallop as saying 10 pounds 3 ounces

It can be confusing here in the UK:

We use Miles on road signs/directions,
Gallons and Litres for petrol, Pints for beer, but wine in in ml - but also a large or small glass!!
Yards/inches AND Meters/centimeters for material and length,
Kilograms and grams AND pounds and ounces for weighing/measuring and recipes - but use one or the other only!
Shopping = a mixture of everything!!

It is a mixed up world.

I remember hearing so much talk about us having to learn the metric system. It never happened and I decided I would not learn it.
