I am making Mug Rugs for Christmas for my quilting friends and family. Has anyone tried plastic inside to prevent sweating on to the table? i have some iron on plastic that I used to make paint aprons for the grandkids.

Maybe better to use the insulation fabric that has the silvery coating on it. Then it'd still be able to be tossed in the washer/dryer.

Surely a regular batting would absorb the moisture enough? And that you are not leaving it there for days on end. A quick wipe up after use, would take away any concerns.

And besides the insulated batting would protect your coffee table from coffee/heat marks!

my mug rugs are made of applqued wool- so there is no sweating on the table- the wool absorbs any moisture quite nicely-
i have some plastic coasters---they make a horrible mess- i'm not quite sure how they would help in the center of fabric---seems like they would cause puddles on top- but that's just me thinking (which has been known to be quite dangerous)
