My cats at the "afternoon matinee"

I have a pet snake that gets fed live mice twice a month. The cats look forward to this event more than the snake does. I have to pull chairs up to the snake tank so the cats can have front row seats for the show. Even new little Bumble kitten enjoyed today's show

    That is so funny.

Good on you for not being squeamish about feeding live mice to your snakes. Icky, I couldn't do it.

OMG ... I suppose in an animal society this "show" would be considered barbaric (come watch the gladiators get eaten by the Lions) ... but I'm laughing too hard to care!

    BTW - great snake tank!!

Little white one is hoping against hope that maybe he could catch that mousie before the snake gets it, LOL!
The other two realize all they'll get is the show. Too adorable

This is the first time we have fed the snake since we got the kitten. The two big cats have been watching the show for years. You should see how excited the two big ones get when I walk in the door with a paper bag with mice in it. They immediately run to the snake tank and wait for me to get their chairs. Can you tell my cats are spoiled?

The cats are very funny and cute. No way I would ever have a snake in my house or mice either. Good for you.

Kola stalks the birds outside my sewing room window. I have a bird feeder there and she gets inro her stealth mode on the sewing table and chirps.

    That is way too funny.
We don't have cats, but the dogs spent a good couple of minutes staring at a big tree trying to figure out where a squirrel went..

I think it is funny that the snake is glaring back at the cat. Maybe he thinks it is a really big mouse.

My tuxedo cat is Moxie and the all black one is her sister Jet. They are both 4 years old. Having an all black cat and a black and white one, a few weeks ago Hubby decided we needed an all white kitten to complete the set, His name is Bumble. All 3 cats are pound rescue kitties. The snake is a rosy boa named Baby. She was a birthday gift to me 12 years ago.

Just wondering (I know nothing about snakes) - why do the mice need to be alive?

The mice need to be alive because the snake is attracted to the movement. snakes are deaf, but they can sense movement(vibrations in the air) with their tongues and their eyes and they can feel the warmth of a live mammal. we had ball pythons for years. they are surprisingly good pets, and if handled well and often they are very interesting. mine went to pre-schools and bookstores for visits and even spent a few years in highschool. our remaining snake lives with my son and is about 24 yrs old.

The idea of snakes is fascinating to me - but so far I've been too squeamish to get up close and personal with any of them.

I have 4 cats that enjoy the show here also. I remove the snakes from the tank to a "feeding" tub. It sits on the floor so I don't have to pull up chairs. lol they line up; the lg guy is over 6ft long so he gets a rat and the 4 ft fella is still on lg mice. what kind of snake do you have. we have ball python. the big guy loves being held and wrapping himself around ya and the smaller guy is a bit snippy if he doesn't get fed in time.

EEEW!! I won't even go to the reptile area at the zoo. No way it would happen in our house. When my husband was in the Navy he wanted me to meet him in Guam, and someone told me about there are geckos everywhere to keep the bug population in check. So needless to say, I stayed in San Diego.
