My Dog ate my Homework
#12
Believe it or not, my dog actually ate the homework... and I was the teacher!! I'd been out of the classroom for several days prior to my mother's death. When I returned, there were LOTS of papers to grade, so I stayed up late and graded and recorded (thankfully) a ton of homework papers. All the work was neatly piled on the kitchen table when I went to bed, but the next morning, most of the work was all over the kitchen with a few pages chewed to bits by the new Border collie puppy. Who knew the puppy could jump on top of the table AND loved chewing paper? My students got a pretty big kick out of the fact that MY dog ate the homework! That dog never outgrew her love of chewing paper! We live in an older home with a mail slot where the mail is delivered right into the home and we always had to grab the mail before she could get to it. Other than that irritating habit, she was a great dog...

I'm a retired teacher and one of the best excuses (actually a reason) for homework not being turned in was from a mom who dropped by to say that her son had left his exercise book with the completed homework in it on the stove. She turned on the wrong burner to heat some chicken soup, setting the paper on fire. She panicked and the first thing she could think of to do, was grab the pan of soup and dump it on the burning homework.
She was an honest person, plus that story is so far in left field that you have to believe it.

Okay here are some pics of my frog eating monster. He is half Corgi, half God-Knows-What and 100% adorable. The frog is actually holding its own.
