My Boo Two kittie caught a female hummer once. She brought it into the house. I thought she had a leaf in her mouth. When I saw what it was, I yelled and screamed at her. She dropped it and ran. I was able to get her flying again with some sugar water on my finger. She licked it off while she lay in my palm. I took her outside and fed her. Finally, she flew off my hand into a tree. She sat there for a while, then she hovered right by me and chirped three times at me they away she went! It was so awesome!

My Kitties like moths. They are slower than birds. My dog is a good Mole getter. She is up to three now.

I have a hunting cat too and for that reason I would never put a feeder where the cat can get the bird. He can have all the canned food in the world, but I will not supply him with these lovely feathered creatures.

But given the horrific drought we're in, they need some extra help this year so they can save up energy to migrate south.
I understand that it is in a cat's nature to hunt birds, but it seems a bit cruel to attract the hummingbirds knowing that they stand a good chance of being killed.

A bizarre end to the whole thing: after trying all day to get the poor hummer to fly out the doors, I finally got out the ladder and climbed up onto the kitchen counter and managed to catch him in my hand and take him outside. Poor guy!
