My wonderful kitty, Benny hasn't been eating and has lost a lot of weight. He's 10 years old and I thought he was just eating less because of his age. The only thing he'll eat is tuna in water. He is fascinated by the water coming out of the faucet and recently that's how he drinks. I took him to the vet last week and they did blood work. He's in renal (kidney) failure. I've been giving him iv fluids daily and the vet told me to feed him Low protein and low phosphorus. Unfornuately he won't eat any of these foods. The vet said "No tuna". I'm so worried so I thought I'd ask if anyone has had the same experience and any suggestions!

There is a brand of cat food - I think it's called KD (for Kidney Diet) - that your vet might stock. See if you can get a can of that. Kitty might or might not want to eat it, though.

When our cat was in a bad way with infection, all she'd eat was raw venison. The vet said not to feed her raw meat but it worked. She regained her health and no problems since.

My picky siamese loves Whiskas (I think that's the brand) of wet food with gravy. He gets more fluid this way but I'm not sure if it's good for him. He's 3 and has some mysterious problems that keeps us in vet bills close to 500 a month but then he goes a couple months and is fine. He's not in pain and I just love this fellow to death! I decided to make his life as good as possible and let him go when it is not. Hugs to you and I hope you find the right then to give yours!

You might try some of the KD diet food for dogs on your kitty. I know with our older dogs and cats, they ate the other's food better when they were ill. Vet said it was a taste thing. Hugs

I am sorry to hear about your cat. I have one cat(Josie in my avatar) that has kidney problems. She is on a special food. comes canned or dry which she loves. It is called WD and available by perscription only at the vets (so they can over charge you) but it does work well. so well in fact that all the cats like it too. just be sure lots of water is available with the dry.

My cat, when in this situation, would eat raw chicken (cut up very small) and some cooked chicken. They also like raw turkey so vary the diet a little. Buy fresh, give raw that day and cook the rest. Buy small amounts and you may be able to teach this little one to eat this type of protein. My cat also wanted to eat it while sitting next to us so we put a plate on a TV tray and we ate on another TV tray and she blossomed. Good luck with this; they are very precious to us.
