I've been trying to find a rewards card that will give me points for paying bills AND making purchases.
I can't find anywhere online that states whether they both are considered the same thing.
So, do any of you know?
I've looked at 4 different cards already and none mention "bill paying". Just purchases.
thanks

For many years I used American Express for everything because we accumulated points for everything, and we used the card a lot. The last two years have been very difficult for us and our spending habits changed. We don't charge anything anymore and even though we always paid them on time, because our credit rating dropped, they gave us a limit, which we never had before. I inquired about it and they only said that is not permanent. To me it was such an insult, since we were never late in our payments, that I would never recommend them to anyone, regardless of the great program they had. They treated us so bad that even the points we now have are frozen, just because we are not accumulating them as fast as we once were.

what type of points are you looking for? Southwest gives miles no matter what you use the card for. My cousin pays her property taxes with it. There is a credit card for quilters its quiltersrewards.com.

Creditor are not giving out things like they used to before the meltdown. Not a good time to be living paycheck to paycheck like i am. Hopefully things will improve soon. I am grateful that I do have a job however! ;-)

Really? That doesn't sound fair at all. You've earned the points, now they've frozen them? Originally Posted by Maride

I always thought American Express was the best card to have. I've never had one though, since I'm not really a credit person.
That's why I want a card that will give me points for bill paying. I don't ever really charge purchases.

I feel guilty talking about a credit card, but I won't use it for credit, just bill paying to earn rewards.

I'd like hotel rewards mostly as well as miscellaneous rewards. Maybe air miles although I don't like flying but I do it now and then. I'd rather drive.Originally Posted by quiltstodo

I would say either Chase or Citicard then. They are open rewards that can be used for all sorts of things not just flight miles and I think Capital One has one that is like that also.

I have a Citicard and I called them today asking if paying bills would let me earn points the same as purchases. She said no.Originally Posted by quiltstodo
