Hawks usually roost where there is water and a reliable food source. Hawks are great for getting rid of rodents and snakes. An old saying from these part is that if you saw a hawk on the side of the road, it meant that fishing wasn't any good. Hawks love fresh fish.

Beautiful .... we have a lot of birds where we live....biggest are the black cockatoos, we have owls and kookaburras and many tiny nectar feeders like honey-eaters.

We have a mating pair of them in our neighbourhood. Last year one of them took my mourning dove mom and her babies. I saw one just this morning flying through our back yard, looking for breakfast no doubt. They are beautiful, but I don't want to see the little ones hurt either. We live in the city but on the edge of a huge protected park.

Wow, he certainly looks malevolent in that second picture! Scary, but beautiful!

Nice picture. We live in a rural area but I very seldom see a hawk.

How fortunate for you to have seen one and so close.

In my culture it is good luck to have seen one.

Pretty. I would watch my small animals. We had a large raptor flying around our neighborhood a couple years ago. There were a couple reports of small dogs being grabbed by the bird. I can't remember what it was, but one lady did manage to get her dog back when she was able to smack the bird with a broom before the bird could get away.
