Default old electronics

Do any of you know of a good (not landfill) way to dispose of old computers, printers etc? I just really hate to send them to the dump....

Check around for places that take them as recycling. Where I live there are several.

Most Best Buys and Staples will recycle them for you.

Check with your local waste disposal company. They should have a location/program for ewaste (that's what they call it). I'm pretty sure there are laws against taking them to the dump, not to mention the valuable elements inside most of those items that they like to recycle, so your local municipality should have a list of resources for you.

In our area, some places will take to recycle but there is a charge ! You need to ask.

I called several office supply stores and computer stores, they will not take to dispose of, some junk shops will take them if they don't have lot in the store already. Too big a hassle to find how to dispose of them, I put them in the bin for trash pick up. Not that I have a lot to get rid of.

We've been really lucky lately. Our credit union and our financial advisor's company both just sponsored a recycling/shredding event so we got rid of papers, two TVs, a printer, a vacuum, and some old lap tops. We then received a notice from the county about a facility that will take the old big computer monitors, and big tube TV, all for free. We have several more computers, counsels, and monitors to get rid of. DH at one time thought he was going to set up a huge computer network, but....nope, so now it's time to start moving them out.

Our county does electronic recycling events a few times a year. I would check with the department that is responsible for waste management to see if they offer something similar.

My trash service will pick up two bulky items twice a year at no charge. That includes ewaste. There are also recycling events, but the problem with those is getting the larger or heavier items into the car.
