Opinion on Energy Drinks
What is your opinion on Energy Drinks? I tried a 5 Hr. energy drink a couple of months ago and never noticed a difference. Since I got it from the Dollar Store I thought maybe it had expired, but it wasn't near the expiration date. Today I tried again, and I think I'm sleepier than I was before I took it.

I never have tried them, but I know of someone that became addicted to them, but fortunately doesn't drink them now. I'm sure a lot of results has a lot to do with how much your body responds to the caffeine and sugar in them. I drink coffee and can go to sleep five minutes afterward.

I live with and around the military, they live off them including the Dh when he is in the field, deployed or CQ duty. I think they are gross..but top selling item on military bases! I have tried the sugar free monster tea one it didn't taste bad but I'll stick to coffee!

My husband tried a couple of those 5 hour energy drinks. And took a nap 30 minutes later.
Some people just love those things and drink them like they would any other type of drink.
I personally think they are gross.

I hate all these things out there that "help" our energy. we all know caffiene is bad for us, especially women. why, oh why do we buy these drinks for ourselves, much less for our children? My granddtrs get these things and I hate that. But i live 1,000 miles away and have no say. it's just drugs in other forms and they want us all "hooked" on them. they make more money that way.

I think they are a complete waste of time and money. Most energy drinks are largely made with caffeine and sugar. They may contain some B vitamins but not enough for any actual benefit not to mention the fact that a proper diet will yield better results. A large percentage of the time, people are lacking in energy due to poor diet, poor sleep and/or lack of proper hydration. A drink chock full of sugar and caffeine is not going to help in that instance.
Caffeine is a substance shown by studies to be more addictive and harder to quit than heroin. Have you ever seen the studies showing a spider's web under the influence of various intoxicants? Check out this link http://www.trinity.edu/jdunn/spiderdrugs.htm
That being said, I love my morning cup of coffee - and I'll probably continue to enjoy it until I drop dead or fall out of my web. But as for energy drinks, I can't stand em. A big glass of water and a brisk 20 minute walk works better and costs less!

Energy drinks should be banned!!! They do give a person a burst of energy, then comes the big drop and you will feel sluggish/sleepy. They are massive miligrams of caffeine and sugar or sugar imitator. Anybody who has difficulty with maintaining practical levels of insulin should not use them, as well as anybody taking certain prescription drugs. As someone else noted, a glass of water and brisk walk will produce the same results.
This advice is from someone who spent several years of working in the substance abuse prevention and treatment field who has watched many people trade one addiction for another. Save your body .... and your money ... maybe even your life!!
