I have had a business account with pay pal for many years now. I liked the convenience for customers and the ability to invoice if they wanted it or to use the shipping features. I have NOT liked the fees that keep going up and up.

After next January though my account will be deactivated until I provide them with permission for their electronic comunications delivery policy. I am still deciding if I want to allow that.

Pay pal is a convenience for the buyer; but for a seller, especially if combined with auction site fees, it means that I have to charge quite a few dollars more for an item.

I use paypal to get money for taking surveys on one site. I only have it transferred to my bank account when there is a sizeable amount built up. Yes, there are fees....I would think you might just take a check and not send the item until the check has cleared the bank...usually 7 days.

You can make an invoice at pay pal by clicking at the top where it says "Request money". The seller is the one who pays a fee for all money that you receive thru paypal. Buyers dont pay anything and are protected by using paypal.

I have verisign on my paypal account for an extra step of protection. When you sign in you request a one time only pin sent to either your cell as a text or to your email. You have to use the pin to enter your account. Each pin issued is random numbers. I don't think I would need an invoice for my transactions as a buyer.

That's kind of nice... getting paid for giving your opinion! And you get "money" that you can spend any way you want, rather than being limited to gift cards to certain shops.

As to invoices... I can see where if the purchaser was buying for a business, they would need to have an actual invoice for their records & for tax purposes.

I love paypal as it allows me to buy from the US and not have to pay the outrageous fee the po charges for US money orders. The last time I did that the fees were more than the value of the money order. I don't need an invoice and have only had a problem once when the seller had a typo in her email address (I copy and paste to make sure I get it right). I like that the seller gets the money right away and doesn't have to wait for our slow po to get it to them.

I love PayPal just be wary of some of the stuff you get on the internet. They are just phishing to get your info. They are not really from Paypal. I have reported it and the site was removed. Paypal does not send info for your to update info.

One word of warning for international SELLERS: PayPal does not provide seller protection unless you ship by some method whereby you can get delivery confirmation. That rules out USPS flat-rate envelopes. You would have to go with Express Mail, which costs at least twice as much. Therefore, international sellers may want to consider insuring all packages as that's the only way to protect yourself. USPS does not offer insurance for flat-rate envelopes, so check out http://www.shipsurance.com. They're what's known as a third-party insurer.
