I'm going to work in Japan for 3 months from mid-September, in the Kanto area, or in Nagoya. Are there any quilting groups, or craft groups, or anybody I could meet? I know about the fabric shops in Tokyo, but I don't know any elsewhere in the Kanto area, or in Nagoya. Any advice would be appreciated! I plan to make a hand pieced and quilted project while there.

Lucky you.
Definitely try to get to the show in Yokohama in November.
It's one of two really big shows in Japan (the other massive one is in January in Tokyo).
Unbelievable workmanship and artistry to see, and equally gorgeous and rare (to the American market, maybe not-so rare to the Australians) fabrics.

Oooh if you get to see anything by Yoko Saito.... I'm so envious! I think she might have a brick-and-mortar store, but I have no idea where it is. I know she has an online store called Quilt Party. I love, love, love her stuff. For some reason, the American quilt industry hasn't caught up with her style. I have yet to see her featured in American quilt magazines or on American tv shows. She has several books with excellent illustrations, but they're only printed in Japanese and French. Sigh... maybe I'll start an email campaign....
