I want to try too! :-)

Barb M 02-28-2010 08:12 PM

Oh me too :) Is anyone going to post through the month how much they are losing, or will it be a secret right til the end?

Lneal 02-28-2010 08:16 PM

It would be better if we didn't post how much we are losing thru the month in case some might feel they don't stand a chance at winning and get discouraged. So lets keep that part a secret, however anytime you feel the need to get a little encouragement or do some sharing with others check in to the "Weigh In" thread where we all meet together. :D Tommorow starts a new day in our lives

Lneal 03-01-2010 03:20 AM

This is great :-D There are 29 current participants: truepeach, carolevidak, CrystalKicks, laparshall, SharonNC, Lneal, LovingIzabelle, yourstrulyquilts, Karielt, quiltylori, quiltincharlotte, MaryAnn, BrendaB, sewred, janRN, Naturalmama, quilter68, Quickstitch, GrammieSharon, JillR, lacikat, DONK, Teacup, JudeWill buddysmom alaskasunshine AliceQ SewDeer BarbM

Some have expressed interest in a reward/incentive plan for losing the most weight in a month's time and the winner receiving a fq from each one participating. This will be based on the honor system and each person will be truthful about their total weight loss for the month. The choice will be solely up to you to join in, but here is the way it will work.

All participants are voluntarily joining to lose weight and competing to be the top loser for the month of March. The winner will receive a fat quarter from the other participants. If there is a tie the fat quarters will be divided up equally. After everyone has sent a pm with the total pounds lost, for the time period, a winner will be determined and posted on the same thread.

We will begin tracking our weight today, March 1st and continuing through March 28. Then on March 29 it will be the time to pm with the total weight loss. On April 1, the winner will be posted. It will then be the responsibility of the losers to contact the winner with details on how to send the fat quarter. Please do not post your progress throughout the month of March so as not to discourage any one who may think they won't win.

We will now let this thread dwindle by not posting anymore comments. Please feel free to check out the "Weigh In" thread for encouragement and support!
May the biggest loser win!!

Hi, where do you go swimming? We have a pool but to cold right now, my friend wanted me to join the y with her but I just can't do that right now just to swim, it's 45.00 a month. She's at the gym with me but dosn't go to much anymore.

Hi. I go to the local Y. I'm very fortunate in that our insurance covers the membership fee. I don't think ours has a monthly fee, tho. I may be wrong, but I think it is abt. $48 a year here. $45 a month is ridiculous. Didn't get to go today, tho. The pool was supposed to open back up today, but they had to put in a new filter system, so won't open til the 22nd.

Count me in ..... begins today, huh? Perfect! It coincides perfectly with my new goal to fit into a bathing suit & be prepared for a reunion. Thanks for the additional incentive.

Yes we will be, I think any pound loss is great, it's not easy but we'll all stick together and we'll do it. I'm proud of everyone on our group.

Perhaps we can all be happy loosers! I don't have any big dreams of winning fat quarters, but it's always a good day when I can lose a few pounds and be part of a good chat.

trupeach 03-05-2010 09:13 AM

I don't expect to be a FQ winner and I just bought the perfect fabric for the person who is. I needed flannel for a baby quilt and was shopping at Fabric.com. I decided just for fun I would see what they had in the way of food fabric. They had cake fabric. Yummy layer cakes some good enough to eat. I had to get it, I couldn't resist. I got a yard so that if this continues I have cake fabric for the next 4 months of biggest loosers. As I said before I thought it would be fun to send food fabric and so I am. LOL

NEW UPDATE!!

BrendaB 03-05-2010 09:32 AM

I have decided not to weigh myself until the last day of the challenge. I think that way, I won't get excited and have something extra, or I won't get discouraged because I'm trying hard and not making as much progress as I had hoped. Getting on the scale just sets me up for failure either day. It will be hard not to look, but that is my plan. :-)

buddy'smom 03-05-2010 09:43 AM

I was just wondering, how do you cook for your family? Do you eat different from them? I cook for myself and than make a dinner for huubby & my son. I have a friend who went on a diet and won't alow nothing into her house except for what she eats, if hubby wants something special he has to go out and buy it and can not bring it into the house, I could never do that to my hubby. We do eat lots of fruits & veggies, but he love his goddies as well, guess we all do??

My situation is a little different. For one thing, I don't eat red meat and very little chicken, turkey, and fish. The guys in the house are huge meat eaters. It makes me ill to look at raw meat, so they cook their own and don't mind it at all. The youngest in the house is 25 and he is a part-timer, and everyone is pretty busy. When I do cook, I make casseroles or a huge pot of soup/chili so they can eat it for a couple days. We have an extra fridge in the garage (came with the house) and since there never seems to be any room in the kitchen fridge for my kinds of food, I have been keeping my stuff in the garage. I am also very busy, working, and I need something super fast, so I asked DH to go to the market and pick out some SmartOnes WW meals for me to have on hand. He did, and it is wonderful. The highest point scale I have seen is 6 and that isn't for deserts, it's for pizza. I also supplement with salads and fruit. The guys make fun of me for not eating like they do, but when I cook my "special" low-fat, low-carb soupls and such, they eat that first. They complain a little about not having any meat in it, but they love it anyway. Sorry I am not helpful in this area for you. I know when I had all my children at home, it was very hard to diet.

My DH and I are both on diets and each on different diet programs! We also work different shifts and eat at different times. He is on a modified atkins diet, I'm watching my calories and cut out all (most) sweets and junk food. We just make it work and are enjoying the weight loss.

buddy'smom 03-05-2010 10:13 AM

Well, this is really great, I don't eat much red meat either, I do love chicken but haven't even eaten much of it latly either, been having lots of salads, I love some of the Kashie products.
They do have some wonderful snacks with low cal. I try and eat small meals several times a day. I also have some milk every now & than and I've never drank milk??

Are you doing WW? I cook everyday but my passion is cooking more so then even quilting. My DD has to gain weight so that is REALLY hard but I cook for both of us. For instance, last night I made meatloaf with potatoes and broccoli. I had the meatloaf with plain steamed broccoli and the potatoes were boiled for mashed potatoes. I took my potatoes before I mashed then and put a sprinkle of salt on them. I then put tons of butter and heavy cream yes heavy cream in the remainder of the potatoes to make DD mashed potatoes. My DD loves her snacks and now is not the time to not have any in the house. I make snacks for me. 1/2 cup of peaches with 1/4 package instant oatmeal put in the toaster oven until golden and you have peach crisp while DD is having peach pie. You just have to trick your brain and stomach, you can still have goodies. Popcorn instead of potato chips. Need chocolate swirl a spoonfull of hot cocoa mix into a cup of coffee. Since I am doing calories at the end of the day when I am running out of my alloted calories for the day I will have 2 crackers with the smallest amount of jam and a cup of hot cinnamon/orange tea. The jam gives me the sweetness I need, the tea will fill my tummy. Also cinnamon is a natural appetite suppressant. Actually in the morning I fill a pitcher with 64 oz (my 8 8oz glasses for the day)of water and I add about a tablespoon of cinnamon to the water and drink that all day. I know people snack on grapes but grapes have a high calorie count there are other things that are better to snack on. Strawberries or blueberries should be in season soon those are good. One of my all time favorites is cherry tomatoes, I pop them in my mouth like candy. Make a low cal dip with veggies and replace your cream cheese mayo and sour cream with YOCHEESE. Yocheese is a soft creamy substance that takes on the flavor of whever it is mixed with so you only have to use 1/2 as much mayo etc. I live on the stuff now that I am dieting. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

WOW, some of these sound great, I made meatloaf yesterday as well. Cinnamon is very good for you, you can also take a small apple and nuch it for 3-minutes in a little water, sprinkle with cinnamond and is super snack. I love the cheey tomatoes as well, I grow mine in the summer and just eat them all day, I can only get tomatoe's & cumbers to grow, I live on swamp lands and everything else just rots!!!
