I know this isn't quilting, but I wanted to show the 116 fleece hats I made for chemo patients that I donated to the VA.

What a wonderful thing you are doing!

adamae 03-09-2015 03:06 PM

When my husband had chemo I bought all kinds of hats and caps. I wish I still had one that I paid forty dollars for it. It was a neat hat that retained its shape no matter how it was mistreated. He gave all his caps and hats away except a straw that he used when he mowed. Memories. He appreciated any and every kindness shown him during his illness. Bless you for your work.

PenniF 03-09-2015 03:28 PM

What a wonderful display of kindness. I'm sure these will be very very much appreciated.

ManiacQuilter2 03-09-2015 04:14 PM

What a nice act of kindness. There are knitters in my church group and they make the cutest little baby hats I have ever seen.

You are so kind and faithful to take on this project and complete so many hats. I am sure they will be appreciated.

Nammie to 7 03-09-2015 06:15 PM

What pattern do you use? I have a bunch of fleece I could use for hats too!

lynnie 03-09-2015 06:16 PM

how thoughtful of you!

GrammaNan 03-09-2015 10:52 PM

You are so generous and kind. When someone is in the middle of fighting cancer with chemo each gesture of kindness means more that you know.

Jingle 03-10-2015 03:56 AM

What a wonderful idea. I gave 5 quilts to a chemo doctor for his patients to use while taking chemo. Last time they told me they didn't need anymore. All the nurses and staff went wikd over them and the work on them.
The Vets will appreciate those hats and use them, especially in the cold winter. May you be blessed.

Gerbie 03-10-2015 04:29 AM

My quilting group will send at least 15 fleece lap quilts to our area VA house in Big Spring Texas this month. Many of us made two each- we only have 10 in our group. I know they will be appreciated as will all of those caps you have made. Hopefully these small gestures of Love will help fill where needed. I don't think we can ever do enough for our Vets, for everything they have done for all of us and our country! Thank you for what you did.

IrishgalfromNJ 03-10-2015 04:43 AM

That's a wonderful donation of your time and talent for a really worthy cause. Nice job.

BarbaraSTX 03-10-2015 05:26 AM

Thank you all for your nice comments. The pattern is "Fleece Hat in a Flash!", a tie dye Diva pattern, purchased at youcanmakethis.com. The only change I made was to make the band in 1 piece, instead of 2. It saves a little bulk when sewing it together. I think it actually took longer to trace the pattern and cut it out than to sew it together. When I dropped them off at the VA, the guy at the front desk asked me where I got them. When I told him I made them, he couldn't believe it. I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, but I've also made/donated 49 flannel wheel chair sized quilts and 43 walker bags. They are truly grateful for anything.
My son was an MP in the Army for 6 years (he got caught in a stop loss). He was in Korea, Bosnia, and Gitmo. he came home in one piece, and I'm so grateful. This is just my little way of paying back for those that didn't.

JanieH 03-10-2015 05:54 AM

How loving and caring you are! Thank you for your efforts - I am sure they will be appreciated!

rjwilder 03-10-2015 07:12 AM

You are so kind to do this for our vets. My dad is 94, WWII vet and Korean war vet. He thinks it is awesome that you are doing this for the guys. You have inspired me to do this also, I'm off to JoAnn's this morning to buy some fabric. Thank you! Brag all you want, you deserve to!

Diannia 03-10-2015 07:31 AM

Very worthy cause, you have a great heart to make all these.

There is a free pattern available for a ladies style. http://www.headhuggers.org/patterns/spatt01.htm

Janice Thompson 03-10-2015 08:45 AM

I also make chemo hats. Never thought about using fleece. I use single knit cotton. I thought a dozen was a lot but you sure are an angel.

roserips 03-10-2015 09:02 AM

I am sure that they will be greatly appreciated

My husband is currently having radiation and chemo treatments. You are an angel in my mind and heart. Thank you so much!

madamekelly 03-10-2015 06:48 PM

Thank you for doing such an unslfish thing. I have made one chemo hat, for a dear friend from high school, and she was so surprized that I made it for her, and she loved it so much, her family made sure it went to heaven with her. For you the chemo hats are a blessing, for the patients, it is also a blessing, but sometimes it is the difference they need to feel "normal". (whatever that is.) Thank you.

BETTY62 03-10-2015 09:04 PM
