200,000.00 winner is a Michigan quilt!
 
The winner of the art show inan Grand Rapids Mi. Went to a quilter this year. I don't know how to add links ( computer challenged) so if anyone can hook up the link that would be great. I googled it and it is so beautiful!! Thanks!

Wow, beautiful work. I was stunned at the amount of the prize - I think both Houston and Paducah's grand prize is $20,000. I like the fact that the contest was open to all forms of art, and a quilt won!

While perusing the Artprize site, I came across an entry by Fraser Smith - he's the artist who carves quilts out of wood. His work is amazing. It looks like quilted cloth, but is hard, solid wood.

Is he the same artist that has pieces at the Paducah museum? I have seen those and they are amazing!

This is the 4th or 5th year for ArtPrize. And the prize money is a big draw for artists. They have all the different pieces placed at venues thruout the city. There's a voted winner and a juried winner. I've never been, but since we're close, it's always covered by the local media. Was so happy to hear a quilter won!!
