We found in our records a old 45.Elvis Presley Hound Dog.

mrspete 03-02-2011 06:13 AM

SO cool. I still have a box of 45's. My prize is "Last Date" by Floyd Cramer. Doesn't it make you feel so connected to history. Looking back now I wish I had not played it so much! It is well loved. Thanks for this great memory. Wow, an Elvis record!!

TanyaLynn 03-02-2011 06:19 AM

I have about 25 of those 45 records that I want to get rid of. I don't want to give them to Goodwill, I don't do garage sales. The antique stores aren't buying as the market is down. I think I might just as well throw them away and save my children the job of doing it when I'm gone. They were my mother's. I have had so much trouble getting rid of her things that I'm trying to not leave my children such an onerous chore. I just had my 70th birthday and realize I won't be keeping house forever.

Connie in CO 03-02-2011 06:52 AM

Please don't throw them away.At least Goodwill could find them homes.Recycle, they would just go to the dump if you threw them away.Connie in CO

ptquilts 03-02-2011 07:21 AM

put an ad on Craigslist. You would be surprised at how many people will want them. I have gotten rid of 33 albums that way, there is always a lot of interest and no questions asked. And mine were no prizes either. Most people will be willing to take them all.

clem55 03-02-2011 07:24 AM

I confess to worse than that. I have old 78's.mostly mine, but some that were given to me that are old albums.Would you believe Bing Crosby's White Christmas,or InkSpot albums? I hate getting rid of them, but they were used so much I dont think they would be considered collectables, but probably would be in good shape. I've got so many from the early 50's, and some from the 40's,like the Andrew Sisters,Glenn Miller,Benny Goodman.,etc.I know my kids will toss them, but I just can't make myself do that.

nativetexan 03-02-2011 07:28 AM

he, he. i have a lot of them. All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth by Spike Jones. Donkey Serenade, etc. Records my Mother had.

redkimba 03-02-2011 07:40 AM

You might want to find out if they are worth any money. Some of the records are worth a nice chunk o' change.

marilynr 03-02-2011 07:43 AM

Sometimes it is the condition of the cover that gives them
value.

icon17 03-02-2011 08:19 AM

Lucky you! I love Him! But Don't We ALL?

Connie in CO 03-02-2011 08:24 AM

I think I'm going to give it to my friend Fay.

Tink's Mom 03-02-2011 08:28 AM

Cool!!! I have a box of 45's that I won't let them get rid of....
I have a bunch of old Elvis albums...and the 45 of "Burning Love"....

"a hunka hunka burning love..."

Central Ohio Quilter 03-02-2011 08:32 AM

Oh, yes!!! Put them on Craig's List! Then you can buy more fabric with the money you get for them! Please don't throw them away!

sueisallaboutquilts 03-02-2011 09:40 AM

My son is a HUGE vinyl fan!!! Don't throw them out!
There are many people who would love them!

Carol, you have some great albums! What is wrong with your kids??? lol
My aunt LOOOVED the Inkspots! What a nice memory you just gave me!

Crafty Lady in WA 03-02-2011 09:43 AM

that is too cool. i have some, but mostly from the 70's.

lyndad 03-02-2011 09:47 AM

I have some 45s & 78s that were my mother's. I picked a one of the 45s the other day and it was "Leader of the Pack" from the 60s. Cute song

gmaybee 03-02-2011 09:50 AM

How about "She Wore Blue Velvet"

CoyoteQuilts 03-02-2011 11:08 AM

My brother collected 45 records. When he passed he had over 3000 collected! He would put them on tapes and give the tapes away. Many of them had the 'scratch, scratch' sound because of the wear and in the 50's they weren't done in stereo.... There are people out there that collect these and pay top dollar. I know he told me of one person that gave him $25.00 for one that was one of the first sold.

So all of you that have these things start looking for a buyer 'cause they are out there. It is a part of history and so much fun.

Grandmama Pat 03-03-2011 05:48 AM

I have a lot of 45's and I have approximately 1,000 LP's. I still love to play them occasionally. Lots of Elvis and other artists from the 50's. I have recorded some to CD's but I just don't have a lot of time to do this anymore. I love my albums though and won't ever get rid of them. My kids grew up on this music and love it almost as much as I do, so I don't think they'll toss them.

drdolly 03-03-2011 05:50 AM

I have a friend who repairs old juke boxes and is always lookiing for the 45's to put in them.

Connie in CO 03-03-2011 05:59 AM

Let me think about selling this 45 with Elvis.Connie in CO

watterstide 03-03-2011 06:16 AM

3 Attachment(s)
i have a juke box and over 1000- 45's. mostly motown.
i bought it out of an old bar near detroit, that was going to be being torn down.
the juke box quit working, i think it blew a fuse.

cherrio 03-03-2011 06:21 AM

oh don't just toss em. an ad in the paper or a note on the bulletin board (office, grocery store?) might find someone with an old juke box. we have one and the grandkids love to "dance". they are all under 5 and it it so cute! someone will love the records.

Grandmama Pat 03-03-2011 06:24 AM

I don't know if they make the fuses that would fit your jukebox anymore, but I'd bet you could find it on-line. I'd fix it and play those records.

Miss Priss 03-03-2011 06:54 AM

Don't throw them away. Put them on E-Bay or Craigs list. There are a lot of people collecting them. I have 78's.

44quiltlady 03-03-2011 08:01 AM

What's on the other side of Hound Dog? Nice memory of my late father. He loved the flip side and now I can't remember the title. Thanks.

momcpo 03-03-2011 08:03 AM

Brings back memories....

meow meow 03-03-2011 09:01 AM

Oh wow memories. I have tons of 45's and LP's not to mention some 8 tracks and lots of cassettes and now cd's. We used to have a bar with the disco lights on front that had an am/fm radio, turn table and 8 track player. A few years ago I needed space for other stuff and so I offered to sell the dumb thing but no takers and my kids wanted the music but the stereo bar it just sat for years and years in the corner of our den. Finally a few years ago, my nephew, who is an avid Kareokee fan and collects stuff came by and I told him hey you want it and he said yes. He added the cd player to it, his kareokee machine set up, I gave him the 8 tracks (some of which my brother, his father had made for us) and put it in his man cave where they have lots of fun with music and old songs. didn't give him my 45s or lps or cassettes but may consider it some day. Oh such memories!! H
Hey Connie how is the show in Pueblo coming along is it still on for the first weekend in April? I am hoping to be there if at all possible.

tigger5464 03-03-2011 09:29 AM

I have my Mom's old collection of 45's. There are a few Elvis in there with the "Sun" label on them. ;) Maybe worth a penny or two? ;) I also have the LP of Blue Hawaii that is blue vinyl in my collection. I know that my kids will never get rid of these things as they grew up listening to the same music as I did. Also have Patsy Cline's Walking, After Midnight from my Mom on a 45. :)

Oh, what a fine thing to have!!! I just love Motown, it's such a good feeling hearing those songs! Get that thing working and enjoy!

Check some museums. I'm serious. My sister is curator for a county museum and I always ask her before I chuck. She took my digital camera- the first one I had to add to her camera display.

husband-of-a-quilter 03-03-2011 11:26 AM

I once bought a box of 150 45s for 10 dollars. In the box were were many rare Philadelphia doo wop records. There was one by Lee Andrew and the Hearts and thought I would sell it on eBay. I got 239 dollars for it. The reason is because it was a very rare label. So do not throw your 45s away, you never know.

I still have all of my old 45 from the 50. I have made sure over the year as the new things have come along that I had something to play all my music on. All my Elvis albums.
I have always loved all kinds of music.

Ramona Byrd 03-03-2011 11:50 AM

Try Crag's List, maybe someone there will want them.

FreeCycle..I'm sure that someone will want them.

I sold a banker's box full of them at auction 10 or more years ago, and was surprised at the loot I got for them.

Don't just throw them away. I still have some and my son gave me a lovely wood machine that will play them and at the same time make a CD from them. Check this out on the Internet, you might want to get one to be able to listen to the oldies again.

Is it a Crosley?

No, the strangest thing is that the only label is on the back of it, it says IT. Innovative technology. It's a big one, about 20 by 20 and maybe 15 high, has the ability to make CDs from records. It's an impressive piece of furniture, looks good on my book shelf.

I have a smaller reproduction that looks like an old one, it's an Emmerson, also plays the old records, resembles the bigger one but they are both of course reproductions.

sassy granny 03-03-2011 12:28 PM

I,m with Carol. I have some 78's that my son left here when he left 30 years ago (and my sister gave them to him)
and I'm can't part with them either. They are in good shape, not played too many times. I guess it will left up to him and his brother what happens to them when I'm gone. I'll leave them the job.
I'd rather be quilting than cleaning out the past. haha

Grandmama Pat 03-03-2011 01:15 PM

I sew better when I have music to listen to and the 50's music is the best (my opinion). I can sew up a storm just listening to The Platters, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, etc.

Kokomo 03-03-2011 03:50 PM

My younger brother is a huge Elvis fan. I would pay you for for him, if you want to sell it.
