I don't watch them but I know what you mean. Part of the American landscape sort of!
I used to watch them in high school and college. Then I had kids and that was the end lol

Well, I think it's because society has actually become as outlandish and deviant as soap writers only imagined---it's not an escape if that is what is going on all over anyway. I think Soaps have run their course.

Hope they don't go messing with Days of Our Lives!

I stopped watching soaps in 1970. My husband was ill for 6 weeks and I watched them every afternoon until 6 weeks later he asked why I wasted my time? I said I didn't waste my time and he said, "Ok, let me explain.....they make out on Monday, it argue on Tuesday, they get out the gun on Wednesday, load the bullet on Thursday, shoot on Friday but they don't fall till Monday." Point made. I've never watched another one since, LOL.

These are the ones my grandmother use to watch. We knew not to bother her during that time. :-)

I have not watched a soap in over 30 years so this will have no affect on me. We quit watching them one day when I realized that some of my children were coming from school and wanted to talk to me and I put a show ahead of them. It never happened again.

You would think that with the signing of new contracts it would mean they anticipate a lot longer run of the shows. Well, back in December 2008 my former employer signed a 5 year lease contract for the large building we worked in and the next month they layed everyone off and turned the building into storage!!! So you never know!
