Wow, it's been years since I watched a soap opera, but even I'm a little nostagically sad to see these 2 go.

ABC Cancels All My Children and One Life to Live:

Tink's Mom 04-14-2011 11:26 AM

Wow! I don't watch One Life to Live often, but...I used to watch in in the summers with my Nana. Way back when Vicky and Joe were dating and her father and sister, Meredith were still alive.

It will be a lose....

jrhboxers 04-14-2011 11:26 AM

AMC - September
OLTL - January

hobbykat1955 04-14-2011 11:27 AM

I'm crying...I've watched OLTL since it's beginning...What will I do...Maybe Soapnet will pick them up...can only hope...

sewcrafty 04-14-2011 11:33 AM

Simply ridiculous!

NancyG 04-14-2011 11:40 AM

I can't believe that!!!! I grew up with All My Children. Just LOVE Erika. What a loss to ABC.

Lori S 04-14-2011 11:43 AM

What will become of Erica?

ptquilts 04-14-2011 12:10 PM

let's face it, the soaps are no match for reality shows like Real Housewives.

What's that you say? Writing?? Why would anyone want something that is professionally written when you can watch real people being "spontaneous"?

I am not a fan of either genre, it seems that the younger generation likes to gets it "Drama" from real life.

I hope so....

I think ABC is making a huge mistake with this decision.

The shows replacing the soaps are cheaper to produce as well as the ratings for the soaps have dropped over time.
Sad overall.

JulieR 04-14-2011 01:18 PM

Oh no! Man, I grew up with both of those shows. Sigh.

chickadee_42us 04-14-2011 01:24 PM

That sucks. Why cancel, couldn't they have cut them back to 30 minutes like they use to be?

PJisChaos 04-14-2011 01:28 PM

In all honesty, I am a bit sad to see these go as well. But, ironically, my hubby is the one that's extremely upset as he hasn't missed a show in several years for either one of these! I am sad as it keeps him out of my hair so I can quilt and surf the board. LoL! Now what am I gonna do to occupy him for those 2 hrs a day??

ROFL!!!! :XD: :XD: :XD:

mamaw 04-14-2011 02:19 PM

I have watched them both since their beginning...wow, saddens me that they want just talk shows and reality tv nowadays. That is my relaxation time after cleaning and before preparing dinner, guess I will have to quilt lol.

SueDor 04-14-2011 02:33 PM

Now you know how I felt when they canceled Guiding Light and Days of our Lives on CBS. But I now have more time to quilt.

dreamboat 04-14-2011 03:04 PM

They are crazy to cancel these 2 soaps. I have watched both of them everyday for years. I think talk shows and reality shows are boring. After all, who wants to hear about other peoples problems.

SuziC 04-14-2011 03:38 PM

I can ONLY imagine what they will replace them with

Katia 04-14-2011 03:41 PM

Oh NO! Please tell me this is just a late Aprils fools joke. I have worked at home for years and years, and these people have kept me company all that time. I don't watch them every day, but I can not imagine them not being there at all. I know so many people that will be so upset.

arimuse 04-14-2011 08:50 PM

I read that this afternoon, Im retired now and can actually sit and make/eat a lunch and pick up the kitchen thru these 2 shows. They will be replacing w/ a cooking/ talk show and some other talk show. I was so mad I went to the ABC website and wrote them a letter in the "contact us" page. Theyre not the greatest of programs, but 2 more of the same shows they have on 57 other channels is just boring and non creative. I told them to bring back test patterns for 2 hrs a day - at least it would be a change. sharet

Maybe your DH will like the Mario Batali and Tim Gunn show they are replacing the 2 with??

stitchinwitch 04-15-2011 04:37 AM

Frankly, I am GLAD that the plug is being pulled on AMC - Am soooo tired of seeing Cameron and Greenlee practically in every scene - sorryline was drab. Now if they cancelled GH, that would be a good move too - BUT!!!!!!OLTL - naw - I was looking forward to seeing the original Todd come back - so many of the actors have just signed new contracts (what is up with THAT?)Maybe I can get more done in my own life now, instead of being glued to the tv!!

debbieumphress 04-15-2011 04:46 AM

Oh well, one more year to watch them. Maybe we can see how they finally bring each character to a close. I grew up with Erica and Vicky. SO sad. At least I have SOnny and Jason on General Hospital. It's next probably. Soaps were fun but everything went in circles and such drama. LOL. Guess real life is taking over. I was getting tired of the Tess issue on One life to live, and Natalie...please... Oh well, I see soap stars on other shows now. GOod luck to them.

Carrie 04-15-2011 04:57 AM

I remember my Grandmother watching four 15 minute soap operas from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. She was thrilled when they went to 30 minutes.

chergram 04-15-2011 05:02 AM

I am sad to see these two go have watched for a very long time I do not like talk shows at all

chairjogger 04-15-2011 05:07 AM

sad, will be replaced by more "talking heads" shows. Just found out this AM and saw your posts.

Where can we get away from all the reality shows? I miss variety shows. Will be showing my age.. Or entertaining sit-coms, sprinkle a few between the medical and crime.
I sew and watch/listen to movies. :)

BMP 04-15-2011 05:22 AM

I am glad to see soaps go, (sorry) I could never understand the attraction to watching them. The story lines are so outragous....another thing that needs to be pulled are the reality shows...we need to get back to clean shows no wonder our kids are turning out the way they are...

sueisallaboutquilts 04-15-2011 05:23 AM

I don't watch them but I know what you mean. Part of the American landscape sort of!
I used to watch them in high school and college. Then I had kids and that was the end lol

Stitchit123 04-15-2011 06:34 AM

CBS cancelled the Edge of Night after 70 some yrs I use to watch it with my Mom who 'watched 'it on the radio with her Mom before TV was invented I started to watch it after I retired and after 25 yrs absence I hadn;t missed much plot ways- but I miss my Mom and the program

Well, I think it's because society has actually become as outlandish and deviant as soap writers only imagined---it's not an escape if that is what is going on all over anyway. I think Soaps have run their course.

Dix 04-15-2011 08:06 AM

Hope they don't go messing with Days of Our Lives!

Nolee 04-15-2011 08:46 AM

I stopped watching soaps in 1970. My husband was ill for 6 weeks and I watched them every afternoon until 6 weeks later he asked why I wasted my time? I said I didn't waste my time and he said, "Ok, let me explain.....they make out on Monday, it argue on Tuesday, they get out the gun on Wednesday, load the bullet on Thursday, shoot on Friday but they don't fall till Monday." Point made. I've never watched another one since, LOL.

baglady65 04-15-2011 10:04 AM

I heard today that maybe another netwrk will pick them up maybe a cable station..........can't wait to see this if it happens

These are the ones my grandmother use to watch. We knew not to bother her during that time. :-)

lillybeck 04-15-2011 10:14 AM

I have not watched a soap in over 30 years so this will have no affect on me. We quit watching them one day when I realized that some of my children were coming from school and wanted to talk to me and I put a show ahead of them. It never happened again.

You would think that with the signing of new contracts it would mean they anticipate a lot longer run of the shows. Well, back in December 2008 my former employer signed a 5 year lease contract for the large building we worked in and the next month they layed everyone off and turned the building into storage!!! So you never know!
