Good job Carol. They come fast and leave just as quickly. we get dribs and drabs until the last week of July then we get slam dunked. I am averaging a quart of sugar water a day, have built from 5 to 10 birds up to about 20 birds. A new flock came in yesterday morning. They arrive tired and hungry, eat then they settle down to stay for awhile. Our house is one they have selected for migration since we have lived here. August is our peak . I am resting while I can. During peak week we feed 3 gallons of sugar water a day.
Would love to see photos of the hummers nest(s). Some members have posted the ones they have and described them. So precious.
One of our neighbors cats would stalk them, I spray the water hose in his direction a few times then he started staying away. Just the sound would scare him.

I have only seen one :( the bees sure love the feeders though lol. I thought I must be missing the hummers because the feeders were going down so fasr till I noticed all the bees at the feeders.

I don't have anywhere near what I usually do... I have 3 feeders out and usually have to refill at least once a week. I am just refilling now so the nectar won't be too old. A neighbor of mine has a good many, but mine are sure fewer this year.

I sure have. I don't have any this year.

I saw our first one in late March, so I put out our feeders at that time. But our population has really been down also. I have only seen three at any one time. Maybe they will be back in full force next year, I hope so. The sweat-bees have really enjoyed the nectar, they crawl in and die, I have helped that population.

I'm from Northern NY and I think your hummingbirds are all up
here. We had one get his beak caught in our screen the other
day. Thank goodness our daughter was able to free him.

Bees, yes there is a loss of bees . Folks need to grow more
flowering plants to help them out. Our Grandson is helping by
starting a bee aparary.

We have less hummers this year here in Maine. We had a long cold spring and then a storm so maybe they found better places to be. Hope they come back next year!

Same thing happened with our goldfinches. They usually come, leave for a couple of weeks for Nova Scotia to breed and then come back. They were here but not many returned.

Yes, usually we have so many it sounds like a bee hive, have only seen one or two this year. I wondered about it. In fact we dont have as many of other species either this year.
