In my opinion, too many ads today assume we are all morons. Just one : if you live in apartment you are qualified to call now. If you own your home, you must wait until tomorrow to get in on this ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY.

OrangeSherbet - That quote in your article "A good wife always knows her place" ---- makes me ILL!! It makes me want to say all those words that never normally come out of my mouth, but I can say all sooooooooooo easily now.

Have you ever thought of how the family has changed ; for example. The men or husbands would go to work, while the wife stayed at home with the children and cooking. Then - what...the women were either FORCED to earn $$$ because of the economy and wanting more than their parents OR just needed something else besides diapers and recipes?? Thus, husbands maybe let up on THEIR duties, and the wives would need to get involved with refinishing furniture, building a fence, or whatever most of us do today. As women became more ambitious, men became more.......less involved in the things that use to be "men's work". How many women were heads of companies back then compared to today? So who has it better? I don't know the answer to that.

If I ever met my husband at the door in high heels he would have had me committed!

we have come a long way, baby. I wonder which today advertising will look so ridiculous 50 years from now?

And Thank God for that! These are a real remind of how much times have changed.

SOrry, but the first thing that came to my mind was....Michelle Bachman. THese are right up her alley. Submissive wife, my aunt Fanny....and she wasn't either, lol.

These were fun to see, though I'd find them quite offensive if they were around today. Especially the one about the coffee, with its message that men have the right to spank their wives.

And while there were of course good things about those days that are gone now, such as a family being able to live well on one income so a parent was able to stay home with the kids, they weren't ideal.
