Ain't it the truth!
BLACK FRIDAY:
Because only in America, people trample others for sales exactly one day after being thankful for what they already have! Stay safe everyone!! |

DH and I are done shopping. Wallyworld was open in our backyard and not busy. Went in got the gift cards and C-mas cards. 2 hours later the last one was in the envelope and stamped. Will be in the mail and on their way tomorrow. For the 2 youngest ones,, who wanted to sew, I sent sewing kits. Their dad knows how to sew. So when they have their time with him he will do his best. Dad's landlord has a small sewing machine (not a fw) the girls can learn from and practice. I learned that just the other day. Landlord has manual and everything. Was his mother's. Didn't know when I was up there he "fandangled" as he calls it his own kitchen curtains. But Cmas shopping done.

Too old to go out and get trampled. Never have and don't plan to ever do it. Crazy people.
|
Agree 100%!!
|
I agree. I have never shopped on Black Friday and never will. I do my shopping mostly online now and I LOVE it. Comes right to my door!
|
I worked at the Mall for 20 years and mandatory to work on Black Friday !!!! I swore that after I retired I would NEVER again be at a MALL on Black Friday and so far I have stuck to that and it has been 12 years. Had a Big lunch for Thanksgiving now a night of football then rest. Hugs
|
I was in retail for years and.hated balck Friday. i'm done shopping gave my son a haunnaka gift tonight, will exchange for a smaller size tomorrow. the rest of his gifts, he gets for Christmas.

Will be on the selling side of the counter tomorrow at the stained glass booth (not my artistry - I'm but a minion). Final weekend of the Texas Renaissance Festival. If people are going to shop. . .they might as well get unique handcrafted gifts that aren't in any mall. . .

[QUOTE=yngldy;6428683]BLACK FRIDAY:

I like to give my grands something in 'green' every year. It's always in style and never the wrong size. So far, I've never had a complaint or had to accept a return, either.
DH and I buy our own presents and tell each other how pleased we are , that the gifts that are so perfect for us, just what we wanted! I usually get DH a shirt and underwear, too, but he's smart enough not to do the same for me! |
I use to go to Black Friday sales with my girls and we always had a good time. It was crowded but everyone was nice. The last time I went to a Black Friday sale I was shocked how nasty the people were! There were groups acting like gangs to get what they wanted first. I can't stand people like that so I left immediately.

IT WAS AWFUL!!! After dinner I put the soup on simmer, and my DIL BEGGED me to go with her. Broke my cardinal rule and went. We went to Walmart, and it was so incredibly packed we couldn't even pull into their parking lot. The service road was parked full, and overflow parking had already filled the huge Slumberland store across the street. We went down the street to a repeat at Target. Stood in line with her for almost an hour to get the "I-pod" she "needed"! Neither store had enough staff, and I'm sure, from what we saw, both suffered lots of theft! I worked black Friday for 20 years in both mall and destination stores, and never saw those kind of crowds! Almost worse that being at the state fair!!:p No shortage of people spending money!!
|
several stores over here are joining this scheme - can't imagine anything worse will definitely be staying away ha ha

I assume a lot of the frenzied shoppers should NOT rack up their credit cards to celebrate a holiday that they do not understand the true meaning of. I love the holidays btw, but the commercial campaigns to get everyone in a frenzy is sad. Camping out for days just to be first in the door? I wonder if they take vacation days, call in sick, dont work??
I worked 14 Black Fridays and I prefer working them vs. trying to shop them. I found them fun. It was a day of shopper traffic control, picking up the sales floor, ringing the register. I was a Manager. Those days were in the late 70's-1988. They were fun. I was much younger too. Sunday store hours were the exception....not the norm. I will watch the mayhem from my recliner. Sandy |
I was in walmart yesterday (early) doing grocery shopping. There were local police in the store. I asked them if they were for crowd control for the big sale, they said yes. Pathetic, that people would act so badly while SHOPPING that they need police to keep them in line. And this is in a small town, fairly nice area.
And no, I have never gone shopping on B.F. |
I've never done the black Friday thing either, shopping can be crazy enough and I don't need to get mixed up in the nuttiness of it all. And brown Thursday!!! Next it will be shopping after Christmas sales on Christmas day - is nothing sacred anymore?? Remember when stores were closed on Sunday, Sundays were church, family dinners, family days, now Sundays are just another day and prayers are not allowed in schools, I think we are becoming a very sad, self-absorbed society where no one will care about anyone but themselves anymore. Sad.
|
I so agree!!!
|
I did Black Friday once about 20 years ago, turned around and went home. I was so saddened by the actions of others.
|
Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
A quiet Friday at home for me and the DH today--neither of us is up to the chaos everyone says BF is; just imagining it is enough to keep the two of us home eating leftover turkey and dressing (I made him a sweet potato pie because all of the pumpkin pie was eaten yesterday, and he insisted he prefers sweet potato anyhow). We would have made the trip down to Chattanooga for the FW in someone's post yesterday; but someone had already jumped on it. Oh well, maybe next time......
|
Amen! I bypassed that entire crazy ordeal
|
My daughter is selling at CANTON'S First Monday event. She has set up her shop there for several months now. I just hope she stays warm this weekend in her pop up tent and sleeping bag.
|
These stores announced they would NOT open on Thanksgiving. If you go to any of them tell the manager you are pleased that they cared so much for their employees. My dh worked in a restaurant for 24 years and we had to wait until he got home for our Thanksgiving dinner. He was exhausted from being nice to customers when he wanted to be home with family. Some years he also worked Christmas. Awful! So glad he is retired now.
ACE Hardware BJ's Wholesale Burlington Coat Factory Costco Dillards Home Depot Neiman Marcus TJ Maxx Marshalls Trader Joes |
I remember the stores being closed on Sunday and closed at 5 pm during the week. That was so hard for many people. I didn't believe in the Blue Law as it was called, all that law did was contribute frustration to people's lives whose jobs didn't have the store hours. Good ridience to that era.
|
You said it well, yngldy!! Stores used to be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. There was one pharmacy in town that would stay open for emergencies, and that was done on a rotating basis, so everyone was able to have the memories made on those days. Now the memories seem to be of angry crowds. Or maybe that's just on TV. I stay home on holidays and mass shopping days. Guess I'm an anachronism!
Thanks, Lynne, for the info on the closed stores. I frequent several of them and will add the comment when I go in to shop. |

We stay home and where we are warm and happy. We send gift cards to the kids and one of those large flat mailing boxes full of small things for their stockings. The quilts I made will be sent out after Christmas when shipping rates go back to semi normal.

Sorry to say. but the Black Friday idea has arrived here in the U.K. Saw on the news here that some people were injured, bargains can be had throughout the year, this sort of grab and smash brings out the worse in people .Some imported ideas are better left I think. We get some lovely ideas from your country but this I think is a no-no. Love Letty
