Beautiful stove and cookware. It is so beautiful, I think owning and using it on a daily basis, should increase ones lifespan by many years!

quiltbuddy 09-06-2011 03:49 AM

I still like your other stove just as well. We have a wood burning model that is very similar. I use cast iron cookware on it. What do you use to clean the copper? I'm always afraid of over doing it an wearing the copper down.

FERSID 09-06-2011 03:57 AM

Love your stove - thought of purchasing one similar when we reno'ed our kitchen but opted for a Wolfe 6 Burner Gas Stove.

Both hubby and myself love cooking and the Wolfe fits our bill just perfectly.

I assume you are referring to the one in the photo of the rocking Shaker crib. That one is an old O'keef and Merrit double oven w/glass door windows and center grill. We had that stove in San Francisco in the first house we owned. A lovely pre earthquake 1903 Workingman's Victorian that I completely rehabbed, and we lived in for 13 years. That was a great stove, but we sold it to a couple of friends and bought a Wolf Commercial 48". I think the one we sold was actually a better stove for domestic use, but the Wolf was a powerful stove and we were doing a lot of entertaining at the time, so it got the job done. This one is really nice but the oven is not as large as other stoves. But for 2 people it is fine and very accurate as to temperature control. Which is what a stove is really all about.

I once had an O'keefe and Merrit stove that I think was identical to the one in your picture. I wish I had kept it, but we sold the house and let the stove go with it. I have not had a cookstove since that could match that one.

sarahconner 09-06-2011 05:42 AM

so neat

Wanabee Quiltin 09-06-2011 06:10 AM

I like the term 'some maintenance required'. I always get a good laugh because I think 'some' is a relative term ! It is very attractive stove and I love the copper pots, they are very nice to use. Mine clean up rather well too.

PensyDutch 09-06-2011 06:34 AM

What do you use to keep all this copper cleaned?

Nikki and Co. 09-06-2011 06:48 AM

Totally Awesome!!!!

flowerjoy 09-06-2011 06:51 AM

I love it... you two sound very very interesting!

Suz 09-06-2011 07:04 AM

My Gram had a cook stove in her kitchen and I always wondered how she was able to maintain the heat to bake a pie. I recall her stuffing the chamber with wood. Her pies would sit atop the stove and I do not recall her offering a piece. Boo!! (The things we remember.)

JudeWill 09-06-2011 07:34 AM

Wow! Beautiful! I bet it is a joy to cook on!

Robinlee 09-06-2011 07:35 AM

my dream stove....

damaquilts 09-06-2011 07:49 AM

I didn't know they made electric ones . Learn something new every day. When I was a little girl we had a woodstove and to this day I have never tasted bread like what came from that stove. :-) I just don't want to chop wood anymore. LOL
Copper is pretty and I am sure it is wonderful but no way do I have the energy to keep it looking that nice. Just lovely.

There is nothing wrong about being organized...it's what makes your life happier. I can not began a project until everything is in its place. Then I sewing with a song in my heart and a smile on my face. Do what makes you sing.

I use a product called Copper Glo. It is a biodegradable powder that comes in a can like Ajax. It doesn't take much effort unless you have let them go for quite some time and they are badly tarnished.

Love the stove and the furniture you posted. You have a lovely home and it is so interesting to look at. I love the copper pots. When I lived in Holland I began collecting copper pieces - most of them handmade. But...on one of our moves the copper collection was stolen and only a few pieces remained. Yours look wonderful against the green of the stove.

annpryor 09-06-2011 08:42 AM

Absolutely stunning. WOW! WOW! WOW!

You are a man of so many talents. Your wife is so lucky. God bless you both. Thanks for sharing pictures of your beautiful things.

John -- we have a collection of antique copper pots and I can't remember what I used when I was housecleaning last spring. I must have put something on them that has completely ruined the luster -- they are as dull as anything. I have tried several products from the supermarket but they don't help at all. Luckily I only did two before I realized there was a problem.
Do you think Lehman's would have something that would help or would the copper glo do anything. What can you recommend. I enjoyed all your pictures.

JanetM 09-06-2011 09:18 AM

You and I would get along great. Love your stove and copper pots. There is nothing wrong with being organized...embrace it

Sometimes people coat the outside of their display with a lacquer spray. That stops the air from oxidizing the copper and tarnishing it. But you couldn't cook with a pot that has been lacquered. it is just for things that you have on display. I use Copper Glow. It is a powder and comes in a can like Ajax. It is also biodegradable so you are not killing the environment every time you clean them. If you are doing any cooking around the copper the moisture in the air will cause them to tarnish, no matter what you use. Just clean them before they start to tarnish badly and they are easier to keep bright, but they will eventualy get streaks of tarnish on all of the copper cooking pots that I have.
John

grocifer 09-06-2011 09:25 AM

Thanks John -- I'll try the Copper glo. We don't use them for cooking and they do hang not far from the stove so maybe it was moisture and not moi that made them so dull.

Quilterfay 09-06-2011 09:54 AM

Love it

Quiltylady 09-06-2011 10:24 AM

OMG!!!!! That is absolutely wonderful.

Roberta 09-06-2011 10:35 AM

She is a real beauty. I had a tan one like that as a wood/cook stove and used to put the bread in the top sections to rise and it would be up in less then an hour. I loved that stove.
