Oh those are so cute!! My DD would love those. She has three AG dolls. She enjoys them so much.

Snooks 01-10-2012 05:59 AM

You and your DGD did a great job.

Wonderful job on the dresses and coat. Great way to do something nice with your granddaughter.
My granddaughters all have American Dolls, mostly the older dolls like Molly and Kristen. Had the orginial patterns and made many outfits for the dolls. The girls are older now, 15 - 29, but all have saved their dolls and their clothes. May in Jersey

grannyp70 01-10-2012 07:32 AM

Those doll clothes are really pretty. Thanks for the link for the free patterns. I am going to be making some for my great-grandaughter. You did a beautiful job on making those for you gd

loriea 01-10-2012 09:05 AM

You are fulfilling my bucket list. I have 5 GS and they are "all boy." No dresses around here.:)

cwessel47 01-10-2012 10:58 AM

I have that green fabric with the daisies and have used it a number of times. It made me smile to see it here. My daughters, now 28 and 26, also had me make them American Girl doll clothes. Back then there were only a few to choose from. Molly and Samantha still live here with buckets of handmade clothes. Oh - for a granddaughter! My favorite to make ( Mom gave me the patterns for Christmas one year) was Molly's raincoat. All that top stitching on the hat really improved the straightness of my sewing. What fun! Your outfits are beautiful and I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Thanks.

athomenow 01-10-2012 11:13 AM

OMG What a gorgeous collection of clothes. I'm sure she is just over the moon about these. So cute and very professional looking.

Divokittysmom 01-10-2012 12:19 PM

Sooooo darling!!

daisydebby 01-10-2012 02:22 PM

How inspirational. I think you've inspired many of us to get out and sew some beautiful doll clothes to make the children happy:) Thank you.

phylby 01-10-2012 07:00 PM

Beautiful doll clothing. Great job.

Judith1005 01-10-2012 07:03 PM

those are all wonderful. what a great project for the two of you. don't forget a doll quilt fit for an american girl is a great gift.

Janis 01-10-2012 08:09 PM

What wonderful clothes for the doll! Great memories are made when you work together on them.
I started buying doll clothes patterns when my oldest grand daughter was born. I'd made doll clothes for my own two daughters when they were small. Mostly baby doll clothes, and then a few Barbie. They are really small. I designed and made some for the Sunshine Family my youngest daughter had. Does anyone remember them? The parents were about 9 inches tall.
I now have three GDs, a 5 yr old and twins 3. Daughter wanted sleeping bags for the girls' baby dolls for Christmas. I used the AM girl/18" patterns that I've gotten at Joann's when they had them on sale for $1-2.00. The sleeping bags turned out great! I also made the tote bags from the same pattern.
At what age do most girls get the AG dolls? My GDs are a little young yet, I think.

Cornerstone quilter 01-10-2012 10:25 PM

Very cute dresses! What patterns did you use?

debbie1983 01-10-2012 10:35 PM

Love the pattern--where did you get it? I belong to a doll cub in town and collect 18" dolls.

My DGDs are 4 (will be 5 next month) and 7. My 4yo was ready for a year...that's all she's talked about. She didn't want to wait for Santa or her birthday but Mommy told her she had to!

What is the pattern # for the sleeping bags?...both my GDs would love those!!

nancia 01-12-2012 08:24 AM

there are now sooo many makers of 18" dolls and you can match almost any ethnic mix in a child. jo-ann's has their dolls for 19.99. toys-r-us has journey girls, target has next generation, i think wal-mart has madame alexander, or switch that with target, fancy nancy is 18" and can wear the same clothes, and there are other off brands. i have only found one boy, but he is part of my collection and i have as many of his clothes as i could afford at the time. he was from the collection at target yrs ago! my daughter had molly. i stayed up late at night before the holidays making her outfits from the real patterns and trying them on her. (you know who was having fun playing with the doll!) after all, i had to be sure they fit! i loved the doll much more than my daughter did. lol. so when she outgrew it there was no question, it was to be handed up to me. i think i have 10 unopened patterns for new clothes for her and i have probably 10 playmates and so many outfits, no telling how many! aush kavoy! too much lololol! my daughter in law better have more than one little chickadee! or she is going to feel totally overwhelmed with dolls when i pass! whatdaya bet she'll be a tomboy? rotflmbo!! maybe some school will want the dolls as a lesson in diversity, i have at least one of everybody! 8-)

Wow! great job! Yes, I am going to have to do some of these too. One of my grand daughters got a American Doll for Christmas and I told her I would make her some doll clothes for it. This is inspiring!

Love the doll clothes, where did you find your patterns if you don't mind my asking. I need some doll patterns I need to make some doll clothes for a very good friends grandaughter.

maryb119 01-13-2012 09:25 AM

Thank you all for the kind words! The link for the patterns was posted by raptureready on page 2 of this thread. I have had so much fun! Grandma's are just antique little girls so we can enjoy dolls too! My DG is excited to have the clothes for her doll. She is telling me now that she would like some pants and pj's for her too. Her mom (my DD) and she have already made a quilt for the doll and DGD did most of the sewing herself! She is very proud of her first quilt! Please feel free to post pictures of the clothes you make. I would love to see them.

Janis 01-13-2012 12:28 PM

Raptureready, I loved the patterns you showed and tried to download them, but my computer won't recognize the way they were put in, so I can't do it. :(

Nanamoms, McCall' M5019 is the pattern I used for the sleeping bags. It calls for a 28 inch zipper. Joann's just had the one that zips from both ends of the zipper at that size, so I got a 30 inch separating one and just put the extra length in the lining. They are a wide zipper and I don't think that the fabric will caught in them. If you wanted to, you could cut off the extra and fasten the length, but I just sewed the opening that it comes out closed by hand. The zipper is a little tricky, but by the third one it looked a lot better! The sleeping bag opens up flat, which I think is a great idea. The pattern also has PJs and Robe, a Pillow Chair, and a Tote Bag big enough to carry 2 dolls. I didn't put the sleeve in the bag for the dolls, nor the pocket on the front so the bags I made can be reversible. I hope this helps.

Those of you that have noticed the different dolls in the different stores, is there much difference in the quality of the dolls? Any that stood above the others, other than the expensive AG dolls? I'm sure that others would like to know this too. Thanks.
Janis

butterick has quite a few

frugalfabrics 01-13-2012 05:47 PM

darling outfits - did you do these from a pattern.

Mickie612 01-14-2012 04:33 AM

I will warn you they are addicting. I been making doll clothes for about 48 yrs but the AG is the most fun.

dkquilter 01-14-2012 04:49 AM

I love them! You have made some great memories!

Kathycg 01-14-2012 04:54 AM

Your doll clothes are adorable. I am making clothes for my grandaughters also. Thanks for he pics.

Sue Fish 01-14-2012 05:19 AM

oh my those are adorable!! I have been knitting the sweaters and hats for the american girl dolls and they are such fun too...

njmomto3 01-22-2012 07:19 PM

My favorite is the red dot dress. I'm thinking that's Molly's birthday dress pattern? It's hard to tell with such a different fabric. The yellow dress with the butterflies gets me based on the fabric alone. Good job grandma!

barbt 01-22-2012 07:39 PM

They are adorable. I am making doll cloth also but for a 13-14 inch. I love doing it and see the faces on the little girls.

I thought it looked like the dress you see the Shirley Temple dolls dressed in.

Janis, thanks so much for the sleeping bag pattern #! Next time patterns are on sale, I'm going to pick it up.

Seems like my to do list includes more doll clothes than anything else! LOL And I've got to get started or I'm going to be in the dog house with my DGD!

I've seen Hancock's "Lauren" doll but not out of the package so not sure of quality. Before my DGD was old enough, my DIL bought a non-brand doll for her...saw it yesterday and it's hair was wild...although this could be because of my DGD. LOL

weasier22 01-23-2012 07:24 PM

Love the dresses! I have my original Toni Doll from the 50s. I have to get myself motivated to make her some clothes. I hope your GD has her doll when she's my age! I smile when I look at my doll! I loved playing with her as a child and I'm happy to still have her. Thanks for sharing the doll clothes...you did a great job on them!

weasier22: I still have my Toni doll also. I remember selling chances from a punch card and also remember who got the other doll!! Don't know if yours came the same way. I named her Cheryl cuz I just loved that name THEN. My 7 year younger sister got hold of it and wacked at her beautiful black hair and painted her finger and toe nails red. She came with a red plaid with white bodice dress that still attires her. Made her a few clothes at the time but put the doll away AGAIN after my sister terrorized her. Now my DGD's keep asking for more clothes for theiir AG doll so need to accumulate some patterns. Great memories.
