I took perverse pleasure in getting rid of the ones in my yard organically. You need 2 fast people and 2 shovels. Dig out a shovel full of dirt and ants from both hills at the same time and run and dump them in the other hill. It creates an ant war, they kill each other off. Works great. I laughed out loud. |
I know ir you have pincher bugs, plant mint arount the foundation area, it will keep them out of your house.
|
Black pepper works for me, haven't had any since. I just put some on the counters and left for a few days, real cheep, and didn't have to go anywhere to get it. Now how to get rid of those lurking snakes out in the rasberries that I want!!! I am so scarred of them.
|
A friend suggested Bounce fabric sheets and place it on the floor where they like to come in, like the vents and windows. Not only does it work in the house, the camper and the front steps, it makes everything smell so freshly clean!
|
Google MaxForce Pest control. This is the only product that I found to get rid of those little bitty ants. I think shipping is free.
|
We had this problem this week, and don't usually. They were coming in from a crack between the trim and the kitchen counter. A very tiny crack. Have only seen 3 since DH sprayed.
Now every litle dark speck I see, I smack it! Usually just a crumb or piece of fabric. LOL |
Find where they are coming in, and put peppermint oil there. They hate it and will not cross it, and you won't be spraying pesticides.

I have ants in my garden in one spot. They actually killed a Sweet William plant. Tried gathering them together with a syrup trap. Worked for a while, then they returned. Just the other day, I was using baking soda out side to clean the grill so I put some baking soda on the ground where they had their home. They have either buried deeper into the ground or moved away. It has been a week. No ants, so far.
|
Cornmeal. They cannot digest it.
|
terro gets taken back to the nest of the ants. I had ants and used this and they got worst then they were gone
|
Thanks!

Hi, first time to post....here in PA we have used this recipe numerous times which was on a local radio talk show for "women" years and years ago AND the best thing ... IT WORKS. Honest!
Equal parts of powdered sugar and borax. (What ever amount you may need.) 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 cups borax (has the mule team on front.) Mix well in a container(that has lid and marked for "Ants".) with an old utensil. With a small container, place around the outside of the house. We have not used it inside the house, since they came from the outside. Like around the foundation. The ants are drawn to the sweetness of the powdered sugar but can't digest the soap powder. Sooo....they all disappear. We even had red ant nests in the Yew bushes in front of the house and they hatched at the same time with gazillions of red small ants everywhere. Used this mixture, with in a half hour or so....no more red ants. What a relief. Hope this can help you. Good luck. |
Forgot to mention, we do not have dogs or cats, so this
powder wasn't disturbed by them or small kids. And, if rain happens, when it is over, repeat the process again. Hope this helps you. |
My dad always poured boiling water into the ant hills and used the sugar/borax bait in the house.
Over the years, I've had them come into my homes via the electrical outlets and the kitchen faucet (like their walking along pipe and up into the wall). If your house is elevated, call a professional. Crawling around under there with boiling water is probably a bad idea. :0D |

If you have ants on you kitchen counter or any place you prepare food use a mixture of 1 tablespoon Dawn dish washing soap and a spray bottle of water. Spray the ants and it will kill them instantly. It plugs the breathing part of them. It won't help kills the rest of them. If Dawn is safe enough to wash your dishes it is safe enough for your counters. I have used it for years.
|
I had them on the kitchen cupboard and used the spray bottle of clorax to wipe the cupboards down. Then I sprayed with a mixture of white vinegar and water. They are gone.
|
I had a lot of medium sized ants coming in to help the
cats eat their dry food. Someone on the Internet said to use white breath mints. I put some around the cat food tray, had to chop them up because Koko (my rescue half Siamese) had WAY too much fun batting them around the kitchen floor. Never saw another ant in the house since, and that was last fall. I thought if they worked so good in the house they would do as well outdoors, but those must be from another group, they absolutely LOVED those breath mints. So had to go back to the old faithful..Boric Acid and sugar. That will get the ants and any roaches that come from the neighbor's big dogs where they dump a lot of used up food and then it is rarely cleaned up........ |

It comes in an orange colored box......you take small squares of the box and squeeze a bit of goo (?) from the tube..and .........ants begone !!!!!!!!!!!! Got it in the hardware store.....very inexpensive and works wonders. good luck.........MaryJane |
We use Terro for sugar ants in the house and Amdro outside for fire ants. Those fire ants are mean little suckers!

An environmentally friendly cure for fire ants has been announced by Walter Reeves on his "Georgia Gardener" radio program. Testimonials that it REALLY WORKS are coming in.
Simply pour two cups of CLUB SODA (carbonated water) directly in the center of a fire ant mound. The carbon dioxide in the water is heavier than air and displaces the oxygen which suffocates the queen and the other ants. The whole colony will be dead within about two days. Besides eliminating the ants, club soda leaves no poisonous residue, does not contaminate the ground water, and does not indiscriminately kill other insects. It is not harmful to your pets, soaks into the ground. Each mound must be treated individually and a one liter bottle of club soda will kill 2 to 3 mounds. Spread the word! For those not familiar with Walter Reeves, he is from the University of Georgia agriculture department, specializing in home gardening. His television show, 'Gardening in Georgia', is on each Saturday. |

If you have a fire ant mound in an empty area, pour boiling water on them. It kills them on contact. I do that when I spot them in my yard.
warning - the hot water will also kill anything you pour it on. You can also use soapy water. |
I had a lot of ant hills in my yard last year and was told to use yellow corn meal on the hills. It works, the ants eat it it swells and they die or move on. I had some ants in my wood pile I use for camp fires and I spread the yellow corn meal and they are gone. It isn't harmful to the environment.

I am having a problem with little tiny flying ants....not termites......flying ants. From what I've read the little buggars swarm when they are mating.......oh great! I'm about to kill their joy. Tomorrow I am going to get something to get rid of them. I have never seen anything like this......they are swarming around my back patio sliding door, inside of it. Anyone ever had this problem?
|
Yes, be very sure those are ants. Look for swarm tubes if you see any they aren't ants. You might have a nest inside the walls.

My dad (83 years old) swears that Formula 409 gets rid of ants. It usually takes two applications, but it always works for him.

I get them every year and use a product called Amdro. It isn't cheap, but you put it outside the perimeter of your house so no danger to indoor pets like my cat. vIt always works. Once applied they take about three days to go away. I use windex on the counters to kill them until they disappear.

I used to have ants in my house before we lost it, they don't like pine sol. God bless. Penny
