Yuck, in the beginning I thought this guy Cody wasn't so bad....but after watching him on his "honeymoon" with his new "wife", I believe he is really just an overgrown sex addict. If I was one of those other three "wives" I would leave him in a heartbeat. What on earth can they possible be getting out this whole senario? Don't they realize they are heading for a train wreck? This latest one is not bad looking, thin and young. Of course he fell in "love" with her!!!! Okay, going to get off my soapbox, just had to vent about this one. Makes me want to puke!!!

Sadiemae 11-28-2010 10:56 PM

I was flipping through channels one night and came across this show. Wanting to puke is a good way of describing the way I felt. It took all of about 5 seconds to flip to the next channel once I knew what this was about. I still have a hard time believing that is even on tv. YUCK!!!!!

ctack2 11-28-2010 10:58 PM

I've been watching, and still don't know what I think about it. I just sit there in awe watching it.
I can't understand what the deal is with these women. Do they have real low self-esteem? Is that what makes them not mind 'sharing'? I just don't get it.
Talk about having your Kate and Edith too. lol

LOL!!!! That is funny Ctack!!! These women are not the brainwashed Mormons that we normally see on the news, they are modernized, yet somehow they are still living in the stoneage? Does he have that good a job that he can support all of them plus 13 children? EEWWWW!!! He looks like he has stinky feet too!!!

Chasing Hawk 11-28-2010 11:20 PM

Personally, I don't think he is that great of a catch.

Maybe it is made of bronze or something.....LOL

Just another silly reality show. I really can't feel sorry for any of them, and why complain? They knew how it was gonna be before they married.

We all know how he paid for the honeymoon, the tv show did.

lots2do 11-29-2010 04:10 AM

I tried to watch it once and only lasted about 5 minutes. Couldn't get past his ego and their 'sharing'. I know I couldn't be in their shoes...or anything else. lol

ptquilts 11-29-2010 04:40 AM

I always wonder, in these polygamous cults, what happens to the extra men. DOn't they realize there is a reason why half the babies born are male and half are female? If God wanted every man to have several wives, wouldn't he have arranged things differently?

I watched the first four episodes. It was like watching a train wreck really hard to look away. I feel sorry for the kids being raised to accept that it's okay to live like that. I think that the husband is an overgrown child and that the wives are all codependent and being married to this man helps fulfill that desire. I tried to watch the Honeymoon episode and just couldn't watch anymore of their idiocy. When the wives share their feelings I just want to slap them for being so blind to the effects of their decisions.

The 'brainwashed' Mormon wives are all from one sect and are a stereotype but make no mistake these women are just as brainwashed.

MZStitch 11-29-2010 05:00 AM

I agree with a poster above, its like a train wreck, I had to look. I watched a few episodes, and they just left me feeling incredibly sad for these women. I don't think any one of them is happy.

Lynnejean 11-29-2010 06:30 AM

At first i was trying to be open minded as we do live in America with free choice but Oh man what a choice these women made!!!!The whole honeymoon episode makes me so sick to my stomach!!! The first three wives at home struggling with being jealous. If anyone of them left now its not one husband they are leaving but a HUGE family unit they would be leaving. It would be so painful to leave and so painful to stay. What a awful situation.

One thing for sure IF you were ever considering doing something like this and you watched the show it would hopefully make you think twice.....no MANY times about making that decision.

BMP 11-29-2010 07:22 AM

I think they need to take most of these reality types of shows off air, no wonder some of the kids today are the way they are. It shows no morals. Another one that needs to go is any show that Kate is doing along with all the housewives shows.

ljsunflower 11-29-2010 07:44 AM

"Sister Wives"?? sounds really goofy to me.
I can definitely say I'm not keeping up with it.

renee765 11-29-2010 07:48 AM

I've been watching this, too. I've noticed that frequently, the first three wives talk about this making them a 'better person'? Huh? You could become a better person by volunteering at an senior citizen center, not by sharing a husband with three other wives!

At first, I kind of enjoyed watching, surprised at how the three wives got along so well. But when the fourth was added, I felt like she was showing the other three how she was the 'favored' one, and I don't watch it anymore.

I live in AZ, where we have several of these communities, and the surplus young men - really still boys, just get kicked out in many, if not most, cases. It is very tough for them, because there is no place for them in their own communities and yet they are not prepared to deal with the "real" world.

bj 11-29-2010 08:34 AM

I want to know how he stays out of jail. They must not all be legal marriages, just "spoken over" or something. I'm pretty sure bigamy is still illegal in all 50 states. How come there's no brother husbands out there?

Yep, they stated on the show that only one was a legal marriage. Law enforcement in these areas is complicated by the fact that a large percentage of the police force is comprised of, or certainly used to be, men who are polygamists themselves.

Amen to that Bonnie!!! Take them all off the air.

MadQuilter 11-29-2010 09:46 AM

Let's take Palin off while we're at it.

As for the Sister Wives - I have watched it and simply marvel at how EVERYTHING is about THE GUY and how EVERYTHING gets rationalized. It is too funny to me.

Yes, yes, yes to all you said, lol.

ptquilts 11-29-2010 09:59 AM

Brother Husbands, I like that... One to do yard work, one to do house work, one to earn a living, one for "AHEM..."

That was the first movie we went to see after we got married. It was a theater that had the big wrap around screen! It was awesome. Still one of my favorites. I love the soundtrack.

grann of 6 11-29-2010 12:10 PM

I just happened to see them being interviewed by Oprah. I have to think those women have very low self esteem that they think that is all they can get. He is a creep as far as I am concerned. I think he uses religion as an excuse to take advantage of women. Now if Clint Eastwood wanted to take on an extra wife....I am right there.

Rosyhf 11-29-2010 12:38 PM

The situation is just like a religious cult thingy. You all know how that works and how mother's let their children be abused just because the main man says he talks to Jesus...it's all a form of brainwashing and the fact that these women are really weak mentally and want desperately to belong.

Who knows what the problem with most of these women is. No red blooded America woman would put up with one second of that c****. They all have a choice. I guess some are content with three squares and an occasional romp and pat on the head for a good job done hahahahahah...

I don't feel sorry for them, they are just too lazy to fend for themselves...it's not like they live in the bush and don't know better....I saw previews of this jerk and his dummies and I couldn't bring myself to watch any of it.

morelcabin 11-29-2010 01:51 PM

Wow...this thread makes me more than happy that I don't watch TV...

quilter68 11-29-2010 02:25 PM

He gets on my nerves.

I really, really want to know how they are handling the finances.

If they are using my tax dollars I want a say in how the money is allocated.

Are they taking welfare? Are the kids getting free tution and free lunches?

How do they do their taxes?
How many "heads of household "are there?

Maybe the Feds should check the returns!

AlwaysQuilting 11-29-2010 02:39 PM

I think I heard them say that they get welfare, but I could be wrong.
I think he's icky....how does he get these women to marry him? There's nothing handsome or sexy about him, in my eyes.
And he's supposed to be following his religion?....then why, if the wives say they are jealous and don't want him to marry again, he didnt' give a patootie and married again anyway. Some religious man there. Doesn't care about the womens feelings, just his own. Overgrown teenager.
I think they all have low self esteem. The wives obviously do and he does too or he wouldn't need the validation of getting more and more wives and kids.
I heard one of the women say they want to become gods and goddesses in the afterlife by following a good polygamous marriage.
I can't type what I thought when I heard her say that.

quilter68 11-29-2010 02:51 PM

You have 13 children in the house ; you have discipline situations. !3 kids are not lovey-dovey.

Those boys are going to be kicked out of there in a year or two.

They are making a bundle on the show.

Look at the Jerk and Kate plus eight!

trisha 11-29-2010 08:08 PM

Maybe the jerk and kate could hookup and then re could have another reality show...the jerk, kate, plus 21...whoohoo!!! Maybe we will see this guy on Dancing with the Stars next season too. Ohhhh,, women are such fools sometimes!!!

pookie ookie 11-29-2010 08:18 PM

The first page of this thread made me snort.

Biologically, it should be a brother husband situation. I need at least six men to keep up with me. Hopefully, soon it will be legal. I can afford 27 brother husbands on 3 compounds... I've done the math.

Anyone watch Big Love? "The Prophet" Roman was always going on about gay marriage leading the way. The show starts up again in January.

love love Big Love I don"t think I would ever want or need more than 1 husband LOL

pittsburgpam 11-29-2010 11:57 PM

I watched it once and it was painful. These women have been brainwashed by their community or the men into believing that sharing the divided loyalties of a man who is just a philanderer at best, and a pedophile at worse, is acceptable.

I was in an abusive marriage for 20 years and this makes me sick to my stomach, literally. Substitute an abused woman who rationalizes that it's not too bad... he only hits her occasionally... and it's really no different.

I also cannot stand any of these reality shows. It is degrading to everyone involved and it lowers society as a whole. When we can sit and laugh at other peoples' misfortunes, when we can sit and cheer on someone who is betraying others, are we any better than the Romans who cheered the Christians being killed in the arena?

I have to agree with you. My husband was verbally abusive at times, and I just took it, because that is what we were taught to do. The only reality shows I watch are DWTS and Americas Next Top Model. I enjoy Cake Boss too. Don't watch much TV. Oh, and sometimes I watch The Apprentice.

grammyj 11-30-2010 06:13 AM

He's a jerk, thinks he's so hot, those women are pathetic and stupid. It was so funny, the three of them were sitting and one said she knew he was really missing all of them, while he was on the honeymoon and then it showed him and new bride on the beach playing around lifting her up and hugging her,he was not even thinking of those other wives and kids.

amandasgramma 11-30-2010 06:17 AM

Wow -- I put off reading this thread for a long time, thinking you all would like it and didn't want to change my attitude about this forum. I'm with you all.....he's a jerk, only watched part of it one time, find it disgusting, ashamed of the women that put up with that crap and wonder how much of MY tax dollars are paying for those children. Too bad the media makes so much off these reality shows...I'd like to see all of them off the air.

Riversong 11-30-2010 07:24 AM

Yuck! I watched it a couple of times. They are all mental. Between them and the Duggars,,,,oh well, 'nuff said!

I like the Duggers. Jim Bob is loving and supportive of his wife I don't think you can say that of the sister wives show. They may have a ton of kids (and that's kind of crazy) but there is no moral depravity which I believe is definitely a description of polygamist marriage. If you watch that show in this last season you've seen more of Jim Bob doing what he can with the preemie and encouraging Michelle to get out of the house. We've also seen him take all the kids but Josie (the preemie) on two trips. That's a lot for one parent to do but it's allowed Michelle to have some quiet time with the baby.

My first husband was verbally abusive most of the time and physically abusive on a few occasions. I stayed for almost 10 yrs because of how I was brought up and a lack of a good role model on marriage. Both my parents were on their 3rd marriages when I married my first husband.
I generally enjoy the positive reality shows, like Project Runway, Kate plus 8, Ace of Cakes (I personally can't stand Cake Boss I think its that East Coast thing that turns me off). I like America's Next Top Model but find that I wish they had a "finishing" school for some of those girls because they are so rude and sometimes give off this air of entitlement. I have enjoyed watching the the Top Chef and find creative ideas from the contestants. I enjoy watching 19 Kids and Counting. They have good family morals, and work together and support each other. Their kids are so cute, heck if I didn't have to have C-sections I probably would have had more than the 4 I have because I love my babies and children they bring so much to your life both good and bad :-)...

I think when you judge a whole group by one or two shows that degrade people it's just the same as lumping people together, they aren't all the same. There are some good reality shows that don't do that and there are some that if I personally could cancel I would because they are mean spirited.

I completely agree.

pittsburgpam 11-30-2010 10:01 AM

I mean the reality shows where they are pitted against each other, fighting to win, backstabbing, etc. It is not something that should be glorified and winning by any means is the objective.
