I was out with DH on a "tool" buying spree near Spring City, TN. Saw this tree and thought it was awesome. It was sooooo big. To put it in perspective the gravel road next to it is at least 10 ft wide. Only noticed the hand after I got home and put it on the computer. DS wanted me to show him how I got the fist to photo shop on and be textured like a tree. He did not believe me that it was real until I showed him the pic on my blackberry.

I love the trees in the Wizard of OZ. So cute. Especially when he slapped Dorothy's hand. LOL

The Left fork looks like a left hand reaching down from above to grasp the tree.

That is a cool and yet creepy tree. The hand is so cool.

BTW the hand is on the main trunk of the tree.

Gramof6 10-10-2010 08:01 PM

It looks like a great climbing tree, too, if the hand part didn't spook you out!

lots2do 10-11-2010 12:48 PM

Very cool. I don't feel creeped out. Feels comforting, somehow.

CarrieAnne 10-11-2010 12:54 PM

Took me a minute to find the hand!

Linda B 10-11-2010 08:00 PM

My DH is getting into woodworking. All that extra growth on the tree is called burl and usually has fantastic grain patterns that makes unbelievable pens. A tree like that is worth a fortune to a woodworker!! Of course you have to cut the burl off the tree in order to use it!

You can't beat nature for pure artistry. Stunning picture and beautiful tree. Thanks for sharing.

finch 10-12-2010 03:43 AM

I must look for that tree the next time I go to Spring City. Where exactly is it located. This would make a great pic to add to my Tennessee Quilt.
Thanks for sharing it.

Trees are a beauty in it's self. I see the hand but I also(don't laugh see a bear top a face ,right top an arm going up into the tree, left and arm hanging down, bottom a oval shape paw, right lower the back side. Ok can anyone is that or is my imgination wild!!!???

I love it. I also see something else......on the right hand trunk (right above the fist) I see an elephant with it's mouth open and it's trunk raised upward. It's in profile and even has an eye. haha Okay, I need to take my meds now. :?
