My husband uses plexiglass mounted with a decorative screw to cover the area behind the range.
He also has used it in my laundry room to keep the painted wall free of splashes of water. It is a
smooth clear surface and wipes clean easily. It does not call attention to itself. And probably costs
a lot less than Formica or tile.

I used a roll of aluminum flashing on the wall over my granite countertop and stovetop....cut out all the electrical outlets and switch plate openings, wedged it in between countertop and cabinets to hold it in place, ten years ago. It mimics the look of stainless steel and cleans up very easily with just a wipe from the dish rag with some soapy water.

We finished our kitchen renovation (did it ourselves), and put up small (2 3/4" x 5 3/4") tiles of slate, subway style, with grey grout, above our counters and behind the stove up to the cabinets above. Love the look, and its easy to clean. With all the variations in the color, it really looks good with the cabinets, which are cherry colored like yours. On the side walls, we went 2 high out to the edge of the countertops to finish it off. Our kitchen is a galley style, like yours, and we went with white appliances as black was too dark and I've had SS, and hated it. We did the same as you, went with heavy black iron pulls, but ours are knobs and the drawers are hammered bin pulls. Love your kitchen in yellow, ours is a deep warm beige like the rest of the house, with white trim.

Forgot to mention, we used a sealer on the tiles and grout once they were up, cleaned and dry, so cleaning is easy. It also brought out all the color variations in the individual tiles.

I put formica behind my stove 12 years ago and have never regretted t.

I like the tiles. I have tile on my kitchen floor and it's 20 years old. The builder suggested we use a clay colored grout and it's worked fine. Can't see stains or dirt. He said the lighter grout would be too hard to keep clean. I think the tile backsplashes they have out now are elegant.

We put Formica from the counter top up the wall to the cabinets in the house we built in Charleston. I loved it! It was all so easy to clean and I never had to repaint it!!

Or, Lowe's has back splashes that look like pressed tin which you might hang from hooks and remove for cleaning.

Cheap me just bought some heavy duty clear plastic and tacked it up behind the stove. It wipes down easily and can be painlessly removed if you don't want guests to see

Alot of homes have the formica as the back splash with no problem at all. you could put it all the way up to the upper cabnets. You could even use a color to match your wall instead of your counters to keep from making your space to dark!
