Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these pesky fruit flies that are over-running my kitchen now that I'm keeping fresh fruit around?

Put a couple of slices of banana into a small dish (I use a custard cup).
Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Take a needle (as quilters we should have lots of these!), and puncture the top of the wrap several times with the needle. Fruit Flies go in thru the little holes ... and can't escape! Leave on back of counter and forget! |
Use Heinz apple cider vinegar with a drop of dish soap We had a horrible infestation and within a few days all gone don't put anything over it it did not work Just use a glass.

They love a fruity sweet wine.

Does anyone know if this works for drain flies too?
|
I use banana peels in a bag too.

For fruit flies:
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 10 drops of dish soap Place in a small dish on your kitchen counter Put all fruit away. By morning most will have drown. Let set 2 days then toss. If you still have some make a new batch. For drain flies: Pour 1 quart bleach down drain. Let set 1 hour then flush with hot water. |
I put beer in a shallow dish, cover it with plastic wrap, and put a few needle holes in the plastic wrap. The fruit flies go in through the holes to get at the beer and then can't get out. I get rid of them and they go off into the next life in a good mood!
