I worked in the fabric department and we had a bell on our table. Everyone just had to ring it even if you were standing right there and not even waiting on other customers. Even little kids asked if they could ring the bell. Now the rest of the story:

I was cutting some fabric one evening when a couple came in. She was headed to the pattern drawers and as they passed the table I heard her tell her husband, "And don't you even think about ringing that bell!" I had finished the fabric cutting when I noticed he had gotten bored and was looking around at things and ended up at the table. He was looking at the bell like a little kid that has been told not to do something and being the silly person I am, I told him, "Oh, go ahead and ring it." Of course he did and it had not even stopped ringing till his wife was around the corner with the look on her face that he was in big trouble. Now what was so funny...He pointed straight at me and said, "She said I could!!!" We couldn't do anything but laugh and I said I was sorry if I got him in trouble, but he wanted to ring that bell so I let him. His wife gave an understand look, directed at her husband and they left. Pricelless...."She said I could!!"

Not what I expected when I saw the title of this thread. Instead of a rant I got a chuckle. Thanks for brightening my day.

No matter what age, they are all still little boys!!! I have a 9 years old myself whose real age is 65!!!

Maggiesmom 01-09-2011 01:57 PM

I don't know a button or bell a boy/man can resist if it is one he's never rang or pushed.

sewgull 01-09-2011 02:04 PM

Ringing a bell bring joy to that little boy(adult) You had fun and so did he.

QuiltingGrannie 01-09-2011 02:41 PM

Love it!

I also work in the fabric department at our Walmart and people can't resist ringing the bells we have also - when we put it out.

UglyCook 01-09-2011 02:41 PM

Haha! I bet you are a fun person to work with. And we can add my dh to the bell-ringing, button-pushing list.

AmyL 01-09-2011 02:43 PM

Great story. We are all children at heart.

hannajo 01-09-2011 03:46 PM

LOL!

SherriB 01-09-2011 04:04 PM

How funny! LOL!! That exchange sounds exactly like something I would say to my hubby or my grandbabies. You can almost see their hands itch to do something when they are told not to do it.

amandasgramma 01-09-2011 04:05 PM

ROLMAO! Goes to show, men ARE just little boys at heart.........

CarrieAnne 01-09-2011 04:11 PM

Our local Wal Mart still has fabric and the Lady was relieved when I needed a tall stack of fabrics cut and or measured, she said it would give her a rest from what she had been doing. Took quite awhile as I bought ends of bolts and yardages, I left with 34 Yd.s and wished I had room for more.

bgullett 01-09-2011 07:25 PM

Funny!

olgaflowers 01-09-2011 07:30 PM

moonrise 01-09-2011 11:17 PM

LOL! My husband's the same way.

In fact, he likes going through the toy aisle, and making all the toy trucks rev up and beep their horns, all the dolls talk, and all the fire trucks blast their sirens.

I just keep right on going, as if I didn't know him!

Anne Marie 01-10-2011 05:06 AM

You touched the little boy in him with that and gave us a chuckle.

CGail 01-10-2011 06:46 AM

The only difference in men and boys is the price of the toy. In this case, the price is free. Cute story. - Cynthia

hexagonquilter 01-10-2011 08:50 AM

Our Wal-Mart fabric department took the ringer out of the bell. It just goes clank. sounds terrible. and on top of that one can get nobody to come help cut the fabric usually.

huntannette 01-10-2011 09:43 AM

I had one of those bells on my desk when i started teaching 40 years agooo.....now let me tell you, it didn`t stay there for long.....especially with 5 and 6 year olds....lol guess the urge never goes away....LOL

Pinkiris 01-10-2011 01:51 PM

Our WalMart has a little sign that says "Please ring bell for assistance--ONCE!!!!!" The ONCE is in very big letters!
