I don't know about newer Berninas, but have used the appropriate adapter for my 1972 Bernina 830 Record, and it's perfectly fine. I think if Bernina is making the adapters for your machine, they probably know what they're doing.

The links to the adapters are below. They don't look like they are Bernina brand. I guess I will take the plunge since a few of you have success. But will also ask my bernina dealer if bernina sells an adapter - cant really seeing them do that :) I will also check online prices to see if that bernina invisible zipper foot is less than $60 some where else.

You just got your new machine, catch your breath and see what the feet that came with the machine are capable of. If you can invest some time, go to the Bernina YouTube channel and check out the various feet and some of the fun things you can do with them. The metal invisible zipper foot is worth every penny --- I find I don't have to do any pinning and the metal weighs the coils down so the stitching is where it is supposed to be and no problems zipping and unzipping zippers. I bought a 380 about 18 months ago and since then have invested in several feet. I consider them an investment as this is possible the last sewing machine I can afford to purchase before I retire in a few years. I bought the Feetures Books when I bought my machine. A few of us get together about once a month and explore a different foot and check out videos available online. We call it Playing Footsies! I bought the Bernina adapter for the snap on feet --- remember that for newer computerized machines there is a calibration between some of the feet and the machine. I find that the Bernina feet work better than generics on my 380. The precision in their production shows.

You can purchase a short shank from your bernina dealer.

I've sewn on my Bernina for years, and I do have the adapter. If you are going that way, be sure you get the Bernina adapter (My machine uses the short shank.), and the generic feet DO work. I've never had a problem with any of them, and I have six. They do exactly what they are designed to do.

Check Ebay, they have feet for many machines from time to time....

When I bought my Bernina 1530, Bernina didn't even make a 1/4" foot. So I ended up buying the 1/4" foot from Lynn Graves (know for the Purple thang). I don't know where I bought the adapter from. I was very fortunate that I won many gift certificates from various Bernina dealerships with my quilts winning in shows so most of my feet I have were paid with the gift certificates.

I wanted to add that the adapter came with my Bernina, which I bought used. I checked the list of available feet for that model and Bernina did, indeed, make this adapter. Whether they still do for newer models, I don't know, but they did not - at least in those days - object to people using low-shank feet. The only concerns that anyone might have would be to see that the feet you select meet up nicely with the feed dogs, attach securely and of course, allow the needle to function without any obstruction. Do all that before you power up, and you should be fine.
