Better than a card!

#2 son presented me with a can of sweetened condensed milk and a bag of dried apricots for Mother's Day (on Monday- but he did call on Sunday)

I totally love both items.

We used to put a can of ripe olives in each of the kids' Christmas 'stocking' - actually it was a brown paper grocery bag - but it worked for us.

When DH was a kid his folks would give him a jar of peanut butter for a gift. He still LOVES PB.

Personalized gifts are the BEST! It means someone is really paying attention to you, your likes and dislikes, etc. Apparently nobody in my family has ever been able to figure me out.......;)

Jingle 05-15-2012 01:25 PM

If you like them that is all that counts.

Neesie 05-15-2012 01:30 PM

I love gifts like that, in which the giver knows exactly what you love . . . and gives it, instead of something "for show." :)

Jammin' Jane 05-15-2012 01:51 PM

That is so sweet!!! What are you going to make?

Ooooooooooh... condensed milk! Are you gonna use it to make danger pudding? Yum! Now that I think about it, I may have to have DH make some tomorrow!

My dad was THRILLED when he got a can of sardines for a gift!

My hubby knows he can get me chocolate for any occasion, and he'll pass muster. Anything past that is "extra credit;" anything less is "doghouse"

I've never heard of 'danger pudding' either?

I have seen several dessert and/or cake recipes that use it.

I have purchased huge 1/2 gallon jars of Vlaski pickles for two of my grandsons for gifts and they love it! :D

My youngest son loves Raisnets so when I send him his Christmas gifts I always tuck a bag of them into the box.

Caswews 05-17-2012 06:38 AM

hmmm.. okay what is danger pudding if I may so boldly ask ?

Dianemarie 05-17-2012 06:42 AM

Love it -- Our daughter makes homemade granola bars and brings them to us every now and again ! Just love the impromtu's !

A friend I worked with told me you know you're getting old when all you want/all you get is consumables! I'm there!

My Dad was one of 14 children, 7 boys and 7 girls, and he didn't care what he got as long as it wasn't a pair of cotton socks or a handkerchief. That's what he remembered from Christmas morning.

nativetexan 05-17-2012 07:41 AM

I hope condensed milk is the same, they have changed the canned milk. it's all watery now and my smallest cat who loved canned milk before, won't touch it now. me either!

MaggieLou 05-17-2012 10:57 AM

There's condensed milk and evaporated milk. Condensed milk is thick and creamy. Evaporated milk is just a little thicker than regular milk. Are you sure you which one you got?

carolynjo 05-17-2012 12:36 PM

Yeah, what is danger pudding?

I had to google it. Found out it's dulce de leche. I guess "danger pudding"
would be an appropriate name if you did it the dangerous way.

Personally, I enjoy condensed milk on its own...yum. LOL
Haven't had it in years.

wanda lou 05-17-2012 02:24 PM

I love gifts like that.

Latrinka 05-17-2012 03:07 PM

Awe, sweet gifts!

bonnielass 05-17-2012 03:18 PM

I always give gifts that are for the person. My husband's grandmother loved the last Christmas gift we gave her as if we had given her a million dollars... what was it? A home canned jar of applesauce!

QuiltnLady1 05-17-2012 03:58 PM

Wow -- danger pudding sounds awesome!! It is great to get something you want as a gift. My DS gets me baseball tickets every Mother's Day -- for sometime in July or August so I can be warm at the ball park. It is the only time I can go.

nancyw 05-17-2012 09:18 PM

My most memorable Christmas gift from childhood was a can of Black olives. I didn't have to share it with anyone! To this day I still love black olives.

nativetexan 05-18-2012 11:18 AM

yep, used to love the thick condensed milk when i was younger. the evaporated milk is what my hubby used to use in his coffee but these days , no matter the brand i get, is all watery looking and it icky to me. my cat wont' touch it now.

One of the best Birthday gifts was in the 50's and that you young ones was before global foods and imported foods. Late April, but my dad found a fresh watermellon it must of been pricey................my mom tried freezing watermellon. Nope, and now there just isn't the flavor that they used to have. However, the variety of Black Diamond isn't too bad.............the foods have been and are being altered or my taste buds are being altered. Food doesn't taste like it used to...............JMO................calla
