Many years ago as we were visiting my family I noticed a x-mas cactus sprawed on the floor all uprooted .My sister-in-law threw it at my bro-in-law during a fight.I gently repotted what I could save and brought home a small piece to root..Every year for some reason this cactus just continues to amaze me.Who says plants don't have feelings? Enjoy

Looks like you have a good green thumb. Very pretty

Geri B 11-15-2014 04:28 AM

Yes, it is repaying you in the most beautiful way it can!

quiltsRfun 11-15-2014 04:42 AM

What a beauty. Looks like you've found the perfect location for your Christmas cactus. You must have a green thumb.

coopah 11-15-2014 04:47 AM

What a beautiful rescue! We had one that had to be left at a friend's home when we moved. This one looks like you've tended it well for quite a few years. Enjoy...their blooms after summer is done is just wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing.

Homespun 11-15-2014 05:18 AM

HI Mary O
Beautiful plant

katesnanna 11-15-2014 06:22 AM

Spectacular plant, it looks so healthy.

I had several of these years ago and they always made a fabulous show. Had to sell all plants when we moved across the country.

KwiltyKahy 11-15-2014 06:24 AM

I love Christmas cactus. Yours is gorgeous. I have a small one I rooted from a friends, still waiting for it to bloom.

GingerK 11-15-2014 07:31 AM

Beautiful plant. I think you must have more than just a green thumb. I'll bet you have a whole green hand!! Mine is blooming right now too, but it only has two flowers.

lynnie 11-15-2014 08:05 AM

that plant is thanking you yearly for saving it. what beautiful blooms you have on it.
isn't it amazing what a little love will do to a plant?

quiltingcandy 11-15-2014 08:21 AM

That is one of the most beautiful Christmas cacti I have ever seen! My mom had one that was like that and every year it would just take off about Thanksgiving. Mine would look ready to bloom - then all the buds would drop off and the plant would be sad. So after a couple plants, I have given up and admire others'.

tessagin 11-15-2014 08:32 AM

All things and people thrive in a loving environment!

Kathy T. 11-15-2014 09:43 AM

That's so lovely!

Grandma Bonnie 11-15-2014 10:01 AM

You have a beautiful Christmas Cactus! Happy you rescued it! I have a small one I've had for 3 or 4 years and it blooms every year - is blooming now - but nowhere near as healthy looking as yours!

Jan in VA 11-15-2014 12:53 PM

Beautiful things bloom in beautiful environments. Yours is exceptional!:)

cathyvv 11-15-2014 01:03 PM

Beautiful!

It was probably very happy to move to a happy home!

Barb in Louisiana 11-15-2014 02:54 PM

Well, that looks like one happy plant. I had one for years, then life got in the way and it died. Might be time to get me another one. I love having blooming plants around me.

Sandra in Minnesota 11-15-2014 02:56 PM

Beautiful Christmas cactus.

kyquiltlover1942 11-16-2014 05:44 AM

My "true" Christmas cactus turns 53 years old this year. My Grandmother gave me a start off of hers the December before I got married in 62. It has survived 7 moves, two kids, 4 cats, 2 dogs, and keeps on blooming. She also taught me to quilt and made sure I had made and finished a quilt before I could marry. Needless to say, she is on my mind quite often.

Clarice29 11-16-2014 07:39 AM

Years ago I planted two tiny slips of Christmas Cacti. One like yours and one hot pink that does blossom at Christmas. They grew into huge plants and I had to get rid of them. I kept a slip of each. They are growing again and the peach colored one has one big bud almost ready to pop. Wondering if the other one will come through for Christmas. They are so pretty.

Caswews 11-16-2014 09:02 AM

How beautiful .. Every year I try to grow them and alas I must have a black thumb with them .. Thanks for sharing

Iraxy 11-16-2014 09:04 AM

Right now my Christmas cactus is in the guest room, under a black trash bag. I think I may get it to bloom this year after all. I do not have a green thumb but I love this plant. I got it at a garage sale for less than 50 cents and it is pretty big. I wish I knew how to make it bloom without the trash bag.

The Quiet Quilter 11-16-2014 11:37 AM

Beautiful Christmas cactus!! How do you care for them? Mine just don't grow much.
right now one has only 2 blooms and the other about 10. That's all I get every year.
They are on the window sill in a west window. What can I do to help it grow? Hugs, Sharon

ranbro 11-16-2014 01:35 PM

Wow--that is one great plant. Congrats.

zzmom 11-16-2014 08:11 PM

That is really beautiful.

Gerbie 11-16-2014 09:45 PM

Beautiful Christmas Cactus. I just love them, but I never have much luck getting them to grow. DH has the green thumb at our house, he can even get poinsettias to keep growing and bloom again. I have problems with silk flowers lol.

Would love to see your cactus please share a picture.

Pam S 11-17-2014 04:35 AM

How beautiful. Judging by the cactus and the other plants in the background, you must really have a green thumb.

kyquiltlover1942 11-17-2014 06:31 AM

Gerbie, I would love to "show off" my plant, but I have never been able to post a picture. I spent about 4 hours trying to load pictures in my album, only to find out there were none there. and by the way, I never keep mine in the dark. It is in the sunroom, and gets the street lights all night, plus another lamp that comes on at 5pm and goes off at 1 am.

Sew Freak 11-17-2014 07:35 AM

absolutely beautiful...I love that plant...had one but it died... :( now that I see yours I'm tempted to get another one!

wendiq 11-17-2014 08:38 AM

You did good! That plant LOVES you!!!

trolleystation 11-17-2014 08:49 AM

My pink, white and coral are all blooming now, but not as 'luscious' as yours. Enjoy...................

mjhaess 11-17-2014 09:30 AM

Beautiful....I use to have one that my ex-husband inherited from his great-great grandmother. We counted over 500 blooms on it. I don't know much about it now that I no longer have contact with him.

caspharm 11-17-2014 04:22 PM

It looks gorgeous.

nwm50 11-17-2014 05:33 PM

Oh I hope mine comes out like this!! U do have a green thumb,it's beautiful

one-and-only 11-17-2014 08:42 PM

I have one I started last year from a single leaf we found on the floor at Costco. Picked up the leaf that had been walked on and kicked aside. Carried it home in a pocket and laid on the counter for a day before putting it in the cactus soil. It now has 3 new leaves and a bud on it. I am so excited about the bud. Hoping is will bloom by Christmas. I use Liquid Cactus fertilizer on it when I water it every to weeks. It also likes the west window it sets in.
