Birdtalk

Some time ago I was standing at my sink washing the dishes when I heard this loud bird discussion going on. I turned around and to my surprise this is how I discovered 2 King parrots. I was so surprised to see how far inside the house they ventured and I had to take a picture as I thought nobody would believe me if I told them.... :)

Beautiful! Are these King Parrots wild birds? Another Australian posted a cucaburra bird recently, plus a hedgehog-looking little critter posted recently. Wonderful; thanks to all of you for posting such interesting things to see from so far away.
|
Are these common birds in your area like a cardinal would be for us? When I saw the picture, I thought you were going to say that your bird was having a conversation with his reflection - lol.

They are beautiful...If I lived in Australia I'm afraid I couldn't keep my eyes turned away from the windows long enough to ever make a quilt. It's hard enough when a glance out my window yields woodpeckers, hummingbirds, cardinals, jays and a plethora of other less colorful birds.

Feeding time....

Yes, that's how tame you can get those parrots.....
|
Oh my gosh! I would want him to come inside with me and stay. I've always wanted a bird, but I always have a cat. An outside trained bird that would come into to eat and to sleep would be perfect. Lucky you! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, they are wild birds and at certain time of the year they come around and sometimes you can get them so tame they feed the seeds out of your hands. We have all sorts of parrots in the area, kangaroos, kookaburras, echidnas (hedgehog type but larger) and lots and lots of other wildlife - at the moment the snakes are very bad!!! :(
|
wow, they are really beautiful... and brave
|
Those birds are beautiful and think they could just fly in the house. I love birds we have many birdfeeders and houses but we don't have any birds like that outside.Sue

OMG - fabulous picture of fabulous birds - BUT - "the snakes are very bad" - so WHY are your windows open with no screens????? Can't snakes crawl/slither up into an open window?????
:) Our house is a highset, so too high for snakes to slither in and the doors on the steps are flyscreened security doors although we've had snakes in the house coming through the window from the roof (probably gone up there to feed on green frogs) but thanks God they weren't venimous ones but still gave us a fright and it doesn't happen all too often :) |
How awesome is that Are they native wild birds where you live?
|
Lucky you to be able to see these beautiful birds.
|
Looking at your photos brought back wonderful memories of all the birds and wildlife there. Do you have a problem with cane frogs there? When visiting up around Cairns I seem to remember cane frogs on roads....and the stingers in the water around December, too. Lots of interesting wildlife there! Absolutely gorgeous country, too.

Your photo is magnificent - here's one of the cheeky sort we get in my neck of the woods (along with the galahs and cockatoos).

All of the pics of Australia's wildlife are awesome. Thanks for sharing and making my day a happy one.
|
Thank you both for posting your beautiful bird pictures ... The varieties in nature are amazing and capturing them on photos is tough - ya'll have great shots!
|
O wow
they are beauties. J j |
I agree with everyone else. It's nice to see how the other parts of the world are like!

I have Amazon parrots and my cats stay away from them. Only takes one bite on the tial to know they will hurt you. My cats also do not bother them because I think it is because they talk. I never leave them alone in same room if the birds are out of their cages, can never be too safe. When my first bird was a baby she came walking into the kitchen asking "where are you?" She had 2 dogs and a cat following her at a big distance. I had only had her a couple weeks and knew then not to leave her out of cage if I was not in the room. Since I was a new bird mom I had no idea she would come looking for me. Thru the years she has chased the dog and cats off the couch if I was sitting or laying down.

He/she is beautiful, as a bird slave? caretaker? owner? of cookatoos, amazons and greys I cannot imagine living where there are parrots are in your backyard.
|
Your lucky to live around such beautiful birds. Great pics.
|
I would love to share your picture and story with a couple bird groups I am on on Yahoo. I tried to send a private message, but evidently do not know what I am doing as it would not go. Please send message to me at . Thank you, take care.

ha, ha. one was probably saying that your house was a nice place to live and the other trying to talk him out of it! cute.
|
Wonderful photo! Look like one parrot in front of a mirror!
|
When we visited our daughter, in Australia, a few years ago, I spent the first couple of days, just looking at beautiful
birds....they were everywhere. Listening to their calls was also fabulous, and sometimes quite loud. We just loved them. We have a grandaughter, Katie, who was accepted into the Vet program at the University of Queensland. |
Lucky you having 2 gorgeous visitors.
Years ago hubby and I went to O'Reilly's - somewhere in the Q'ld hinterland - just to see those gorgeous birds. |

Wildlife in Tasmania

Just this week alone, I've had: multitudes of wild rabbits; a wild hare; wallabies; an echidna; beautiful blue wrens; and several sulphur-crested cockatoos feeding on the ground very close to my house, all in daylight - here in Tasmania, down under Down Under.
Beautiful rosellas having their daily slice of apple at my friends' place in the Blue Mtns near Sydney: |
Those birds are SO beautiful. Thanks for sharing all of the pics.

This is one of the brightest fellow we have visit in Possum Trot, KY :)
and they're plenty good at chasing away the outside cats. Good thing we don't have parrots as we about go broke in the winter months feeding our feathered friends as it is. |
Thanks to all of you that posted pictures. Really enjoyed the slide show.
|
So the two parrots are just talking smack to each other...or maybe I was here first..O check out that cheeky human.. love animals. thanks for the picts
|
Aren't you afraid they will take off with your keys? My Sister lives in Springvale. I went to visit a few years ago. I enjoyed watching the beautiful birds flying over their yard. They have peach, cherry and plum trees, but said they rarely get fruit , the white cockatoos clean them off. They closest colorful bird I have seen here , is the Indigo Bunting.
