This is one that has visited before but after dark.
Pictures was taken about 8 pm Chowing down on bread & corn Leaving Sitting in field I asked him to raise his head for a picture |
They are lovely creatures, I would not want one close to me.
|
We gave him bread and corn?
|
Hope he learns "STAY" but not to close!!
|
We have 2 bears living on our property, always strolling through. They are so beautiful, but scarry.
The other day my hubbie forgot to shut the garage door, both the outside and the one into the house. I went to close the door and there was a bear in the garage having lunch on our garbage ( we have to keep the cans in the garage to keep them out). I don't know who was more surprised, him or me! |
I was at the end of our large garden when I took the last 2 , the first on was from my back porch. I did use the zoom on the camera.
He is only about 3 yrs old. |
It is dangerous to feed bears. They become lazy and depend on humans for food and the result can be tragic.
|
We have been putting out for the deer & squirrels for about 5 1/2 yrs. now, but the bear usually just pass through. They have been working on the mountain behind us, so they have most likely scared him out. He is about 3 yrs old.
|
WOW -- I would say that is a little too close for comfort.
|
There's been an increase here in black bear's coming into city limits. They're clearing land in the woods down the road from us for new housing developments and now the black bears are showing up in our backyard's and front lawns.
Our property backs on to the woods so we get all sorts of critters but bears is a first here. |
Too close for comfort.

Bears are dangerous animals. They also become habituated and can cause damage. Here in Alaska we are well versed in avoiding unnecessary interaction with bears. It is important to understand that whilst you may think you are doing the bear a "favour" you are actually risking breaking laws and possibly creating problems for your neighbours if the bear decides this is a great place to call home.
"NEVER FEED BEARS – They will associate people with food and may become a persistent problem for you and your neighbors. It is illegal to feed bears in Maryland." http://www.dnr.state.md.us/dnrnews/infocus/wildlife.asp I am sorry if this sounds like a lecture, but if you have ever seen a small orphaned bear have to spend the rest of it's life housed in a zoo because humans saw fit to be irresponsible and selfish you would might see it from a different angle. |

We have been putting bread & corn out for years for the does & their young & the squirrles & birds. The DNR have been notified about the bear coming in. |

Facts About Feeding Wildlife
• Feeding wildlife can lead to the spread of disease • Wild animals can be dangerous • Feeding leads to crowding and crowding causes stress • Supplemental food sources do not contribute to a wildlife population’s well being • An overabundance of individuals can result in habitat degradation • Wild animals need habitat not handouts |

We have a 2 yr old black bear that we believe just strolled on by.. my neighbor got pics on his security camera.. Way too close for comfort for me.. Im happy to say we didnt get pics on any of our security cameras- means he was far away.. Whew..
|
Unfortunately the bear doesn't know the food wasn't for him..... thats why it is probably a good idea not to feed the wild life full stop, unless there is exceptional circumstances.
|
Thanks for sharing the picture of the big Black Bear
(we have coyotes in our area, we don't feed them but they still come around at night time by our windows and howl up a storm at us) scary |
Awesome picture Lab...I also feed everything here...LOL
I hope you can get some more pics of the wildlife in your area. Thanks for sharing the pic! |
Beautiful creature....so sad their environment is being destroyed. Thanks for sharing the pic, I really appreciate being able to see all the amazing things your country has to offer.
|
You are tooooo funny! LOVE IT
|
Thanks for sharing! Loved getting to see the pics. I think it's really nice of you guys to leave some food out for the deer and squirrels :)

Our property backs on to the woods so we get all sorts of critters but bears is a first here. I live in a city and within the past 8 weeks they have cited a black bear, a cougar and coyotes within the city limits. AND we aren't feeding them but they're here. • Wild animals need habitat not handouts - too bad we're destroying their habitat. Then they wouldn't have a reason to come scrounging. Sorry for venting but the humans are causing this. JMHO I know it's got to be scary for you all to see bear so close to your homes. |
Lab thank you for sharing the pics with us! I love bears but do respect them. We have black bear here in E. Okla. but I have not personally seen them. Good for you to feed the deer and such! If stupid humans destroy their natural habitat then they have to go into more civilized areas for food. I also agree....Let them build where the dilapidated, run down bldgs are so they are not such an eye sore. One day we will have no true nature left. Sad. Thanks again for sharing the pics.

butnsk & Gramof6,
I agree with you about the so called " progress " . This is the first in 5 1/2 years living in this area that we have seen rhem this close. |
I never ever ever want to see a bear anywhere near my house or cottage. Terrified of them.
|
He was about a 75 yards away from house.
|
always excited to see, FROM A DISTANCE!
|
It must be pretty wild down there in Maryland! That bear scares me from the Philadelphia suburbs.

It isn't that scarry, just very fastenating !! :-D |
I love to watch wildlife...hopefully the work will cease on the mountain behind you and that bear can go home.
|
He will or DNR will relocate him.
|
We only feed the birds and even then we get a couple bears a summer tearing down everything. At night we have to take in the suet feeders because of coons and bears. And we don't live out in the woods -- I think they come down to the shore to see if any fish have washed ashore

Please explain to me why people feed wild animals. Once you feed them they lose their animal instictiveness and start seeking out people because of the smell of the people on their food. They are wild and leave them that way. It is survival of the fitest and the animal will win- J
|
They are beautiful but I would not feel safe with one around.
|
About a month ago a woman was out in the parking lot of her condo. This was in Pinetop, AZ. She got attacked by a bear. He attacked her 3 times. She is still in hospital. Has had numerous surgeries. My prayers are with her

Destroying the habitat is what brings the wildlife to populated aresa. This is not hard to figure out. If they can't find food to eat they will find small pets and people to eat. Everything needs food. Loved the pictures.
