I like mysteries and historical fiction. Purchased a Kindle awhile back thinking it would save me trips to the library..but not so...the authors I like to read are not freebies from amazon-or available as ereaders from library, so i still order and pick up "real" books from my library.....I am told a lot of the larger publishers are not keen on offering ebooks for "just to be read" as the $$$ is not there..and I guess libraries have to pay some source to have ebooks available and a lot of them are not ready or due to budget able to pay....so library, library sales, garage, estate sales are great...we also have a used book store in our "little" town and can exchange books there at very reasonable prices...or no cost if exchange works out.....funnnnnnnn

I bought a Kindle thinking it would save money, not so, the books are just as much or more than printed books.
When I lived in the city there were many used book stores to shop at.
Now Im in the country so bought a Kindle, my mistake. It is cheaper to just order books from Amazon where you can get used books cheap.

I am wondering if Nook and Kindle are compatible - can you get a book that will go on either one? Or is it like VHS and Betamax?

Nivosum, if you like the Miss Julia books, you might want to check out the Miss Read series which takes one back to a gentler time (at least the swear words and blatant sex scenes aren't there). I am reading Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy (about the shooting in the Amish school) and for fun, just finished two of Sherryl Woods books. I like Picoult's early books, and Nicolas Sparks, and anything that is not too deep. I won't read Sophie Kinsella too many swear words.

I like V.C. Andrews books. Check em out at library sometimes.

I'll be signing up for the ARK (adults reading kids books) program at our library soon. Right now I'm readingThe seeing Stone by Kevin Crossley Holland. It's the first of three in the series about King Arthur. I love historical fiction and even though this is a YA book it"s a good read.

I read Roberts/Robb, Krentz/Castle/Quick. Howard, Garwood, Feehan, Sands-mainly. I like a variety of books and stories. Mysteries, Paranormal, Cops and bad guys-I love the kindle as it saves packing space when traveling and weight!! I keep my favourites on it. I also buy the hardcopies of some books but am moving more to the kindle. I have 4 walls-10 feet by 8 foot high of books. Need to thin these out as now that I quilt I won't be rereading a lot of them.

Good thread! Thanks for the free book web sites. You don't have to buy books - ask your local library if they have ebooks, and learn how to download. I borrow ebooks from both my AZ and CT libraries. I'm taking my Kindle on my 3 week trip to Turkey, and it'll be loaded with free books!
