I know there have been threads on water before, but I got to wondering... so I created a little survey.

1. Do you buy bottled water? If yes, why?
a. our tap water is decent, but bottled tastes even better
b. our tap water is safe to drink, but it tastes terrible
c. our tap water isn't safe to drink
d. convenient to have water bottles when on the go
e. alternative to other bottled beverages (sodapop, juice, etc.)
f. to look stylish, cool, trendy
g. love the idea of water that comes from a mountain spring, glacier, Fiji, etc.
h. other (please explain)

If you usually drink tap water, why?
a. tastes perfectly fine
b. costs less
c. don't want to harm the environment with all those plastic bottles
d. don't want health problems from all those plastic bottles
e. other (please explain)

2.Do you buy the size you can carry with you, the gallon jugs, the big tanks that go on a dispenser, or some combination?

3. If your tap water tastes bad, what does it taste like?
a. chlorine
b. fish
c. algae
d. cement
e. metallic
f. chemical
g. dirty
h. other (please explain)

4. Does your tap water have a texture, like oily, slimy?

5. If you drink bottled, would you switch back to tap if it tasted good? Why or why not?

Thanks. This survey isn't for any purpose other than my own curiosity. And by the way, I drink bottled water, but I'll drink decent tap or filtered water when it's available.

Jeanniejo 07-31-2010 11:20 AM

I don't drink water. I'm a pepsihaulic

sharon b 07-31-2010 11:22 AM

I drink tap water, I like the taste

Bottled water to me has a funny taste :?

nativetexan 07-31-2010 11:23 AM

luckily i've lived where water tastes fine. so no bottled water needed.

Jim's Gem 07-31-2010 11:23 AM

I occasionally buy bottled water. Not to drink here in the house. I buy it to take places. I do not drink soft drinks, only water so when out will buy it more often. I do get the tap water with ice at restaurants most of the time.
Our tap water is fine for drinking, though we have very hard water. It tastes fine, I'm used to it.
Tap water is much much cheaper and most bottled waters do not have the added fluoride which children who only drink the bottled water have been having teeth issues.
I don't like using all that plastic and all the garbage it creates.
I prefer to drink the water that has gone through the filter of my refrigerator however that is only a fraction of what I drink.

Melinda in Tulsa 07-31-2010 11:23 AM

I drink bottled water too, but if I have to have tap water, I need a slice of lemon or lime, or a squeeze of lemon juice in it. I just don't like the taste of plain old tap water. I'm not a *soda* drinker either. Maybe have a couple cokes a year, and then they have to be fountain drinks, not bottled. DH thinks I'm a nut!

Sadiemae 07-31-2010 11:29 AM

Buy bottled water sometimes. I usually drink the reverse osmosis water. Bottled water is just as hard as tap water, so I stopped buying water for the CPAP. My tap water does smell like bleach and I won't drink it.

Lisanne 07-31-2010 11:33 AM

Sadiemae, is reverse osmosis water the same as distilled? That's what I buy (in gallon jugs). Distilled is pretty much pure h2o. Should be fine for a CPAP.

Thanks for the responses so far!

MadQuilter 07-31-2010 12:07 PM

Our tap water is very sweet and tastes great from the well. However, I prefer the mineral water with lime flavor so I do buy the bottles most of the time.

Joyce 07-31-2010 12:20 PM

I think bottled water is too expensive unless you have bad undrinkable water.
I like my nice cold water from our well. It is so good.
A guy in town gets huge jugs of it from us for making wine. Something about the PH being perfect. He also flies all over the country for just the right grapes.
All of my kids will buy bottled water for the convenience.

2wheelwoman 07-31-2010 12:25 PM

I drink water filtered through our refrigerator when I'm home and soda when we're at restaurants. However, for taking with us on day hikes and things like that, the bottled water is quite convenient. Our straight tap water has too much of a chloriney (new word!) taste to it.

sewgull 07-31-2010 12:42 PM

Tap water for me. I live an area that has good water. Does bottle water have to meet any standards? They do a fantastic job of advertising bottle water. Makes us really think we getting the best taste and cleanest water.
But are we?

Melinda in Tulsa 07-31-2010 12:48 PM

Bottled water is probably just filtered tap water! But it doesn't have all the chemical tastes to it that most tap water does. I like Purity brand and Deerfield Springs, they taste the best to me.

CAROLJ 07-31-2010 01:10 PM

h: I travel and live in the desert so we always carry water in case we break down or have a flat. Plus we prefer to drink water. We drink tap water at home. Bottled water is convenient, I can take it with me when I bike, or my husband takes it to the gym. Plus, I don't have to worry about the container leaking as it has with the rubbermaid (and other brands) containers.

I generally refill the plastic bottle several times.

MissTreated 07-31-2010 02:40 PM

I drink filtered tap (ours tastes a little chlorine infused) and I try to take it with me in a bottle when at all possible. Otherwise I buy it for the sake of convenience. I drink bottled water at work, it's what is available, and the water from the tap comes out brown when left for the weekend. I don't consider it very safe.

CarrieAnne 07-31-2010 02:43 PM

I like the taste of our well water, but I do keep some bottled water on hand for emegencies,or when I am going to be gone for a long time. I also take it to work, the cities watr there tastes like chlorine!

sewmuch 07-31-2010 02:47 PM

Tap water here is fine....do buy bottled for parties and to have for trips, etc....

hobo2000 07-31-2010 02:55 PM

Believe it or not in Washington, DC and metro area, at least 5-6 times per year for a week to 10 days they tell us to boil our drinking water for 5 min. Do you think I would ever go back to drinking out of our taps? We buy gal. jugs and ind. bottles of Deer Park water. Its the only one our family agrees on and its the best $28 per month we spend. None of us drink soda but we do like coffee, tea & juice all made with bottled water.

Beth33 07-31-2010 03:03 PM

Our tap water sometimes smells like chlorine, but it tastes fine, so when I drink water (not often) I drink tap. But buy huge gallon size bottles for kitty, don't want him exposed to so many chemicals. (Lost one to cancer)

DITTO for me! :)

Ditter43 07-31-2010 03:52 PM

I drink both...Tap water at home, occasionally when we are out I will drink bottled water.

littlehud 07-31-2010 05:34 PM

All my kids drink bottled and I drink tap. I already pay the water bill so I'll drink the water in the tap. It tastes fine to me.

Jingle 07-31-2010 05:40 PM

Tap water, taste fine to me amd is cheaper than bottled. DGD that lives with us says it has too much clorine. I bought her bottled for 3 yr.s and then she switched to filtered water in a pitcher, PUR.

great aunt jacqui 07-31-2010 05:50 PM

Our water is pure and cold from the well It tastes swell.
We buy bottled water for the road, but bring back the empties to refill with our water and replace in the fridge to get cold

sasseyib 07-31-2010 06:23 PM

I drink tap water at home and will buy bottled water if I am out and forget to take my own with me. I have to confess that I have a "berry propel" addiction so I add it in my water. Used to drink diet coke but have gotten myself to where I only have it every once in awhile.

pojo 07-31-2010 08:01 PM

yes I drink bottle water we have awful tasting city water.

Bobbinchick 07-31-2010 10:30 PM

I buy distilled water as I use it in my cpap machine. I drink filtered water here. When I lived in Seattle I could not stand the taste of the water there so I started filtering it and I still do, but the distilled water is for my cpap. Have a great night, Huggies, Fay

barbrdunn 07-31-2010 10:40 PM

Our tap water is brown and smells rotten...so bottled water all the way. When I run the bath, it is like bathing in the sewer...needless to say I just shower. It is a shame, because I have a great jacuzzi tub. I have learned to love the flavored water so much I have given up on sodas!

I felt that way with Arrowhead only.

crafter005 08-01-2010 12:22 AM

I drink tap water because it's cheap. My tastes okay but it sometimes has a clorine taste or smell to it. I do sometimes buy bottled water but I tend to use it quickly and hate to have to store in the house in the gallon containers. I can't carry anything larger.

I drink filtered water at work. When I'm driving or out, I use a plastic cup with tap water.

Edie 08-01-2010 03:49 AM

Minnesota has the best water in the world. Right straight from the tap! Edie

I don't use bottled water - not necessary! Beautiful clear water we have!

sueisallaboutquilts 08-01-2010 04:33 AM

I drink bottled water because it's portable. I got in the habit awhile back from bike riding and having a cat who HAD to tip over every glass he saw :D
I had to laugh at myself when George Carlin brought up how ridiculous it is though......... :D:D

quilt3311 08-01-2010 05:09 AM

I have a bottle that I refill from my own tap. Our water is cold and clean. Guess we are lucky. I do wash out the bottle with dish soap after each use then rinse well and dry. Never leave bottled water in a hot car and then drink it. Something leaches from the plastic when the water is hot. Heard that on a Dr. show recently. I have an ice cube tray that makes tiny round ice cubes and put those in the bottle first, then put into an insulated bottle carrier. Keeps things cold for hours.

mommaB 08-01-2010 06:19 AM

I drink tap at home, but I either filter it, or leave it sit til the chlorine is gone. I like well water so much better than the city water I have!! I will drink bottled when traveling, I'm not a fan of drinking fountains!! Often, we fill up a bottle at home before we go!

watterstide 08-01-2010 06:19 AM

interesting article on bottled water:
http://www.ehow.com/how_4889952_calc...led-water.html

we have a brita filtered picture, my husband uses. he will not drink from the tap at home.

i drink from the tap. I can't tell the difference between them.

the only time we buy bottled, and that would be by the gallon, is when we go camping...

i do reuse bottles a few times, i fill them half way with water, and freeze, and then add water to the frozen, to take with outside in the garden.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-01-2010 06:48 AM

Kim in Michigan I like your idea- thanks :)
My kids keep telling me that those plastic bottles aren't good for us.
I keep forgetting to research it.

Scissor Queen 08-01-2010 07:02 AM

At home we drink tap. When we were in Oklahoma the water was so bad we drank bottled. The only time we drink bottled water is if we're on the road going some where.

Lizzytish 08-01-2010 09:15 AM

We have well water fresh from the springs that runs underground. We tested it once and it rated better than than the town water.

Nanjun 08-01-2010 09:24 AM

I drink bottled waer because I seem to drink more if it is in a bottle and is cold.
